Over 100 girls attended the national touring Wrestle LIke A Girl ‘Empowerment Camp’ October 21-22 at River Falls, Wisconsin.

The camp featured Wrestle Like A Girl Founder/World Medalist Sally Roberts along with Olympian/National Team Coach Clarissa Chun and Tamyra Mensah, WCWA Nationals Champion, University Nationals Champion, U.S. Open Champion, Olympic Trials Champion/World Team Member.

Training sessions were conducted as well as a high school freestyle dual pitting USA wrestlers versus Canada on Saturday night.

Wrestle Like A Girl is the leading proponent of sanctioning girls high school wrestling nationwide.

A movement is underway seeking to sanction girls high school wrestling here in Wisconsin.

New this year in Wisconsin, during the WIAA high school wrestling season, girls will have the opportunity to wrestle other girls in the new girls divisions being offered at four high school invitationals in the 2017-2018 high school wrestling season. These events are looking forward to great numbers. Talk to your high school coach and encourage him/her to find a way for you to attend one or more of these new events.

WIAA High School season Folkstyle Season Girls Events

Four opportunities for girls vs. girls competition at WIAA high school sanctioned events will be available during the 2017-2018 high school season.

These are WIAA high school sanctioned invitationals each offering a separate girls division as part of the invitational. You must be a member of your high school wrestling team at any level (freshman, junior varsity, varsity).

December 16, 2017; Marty Loy Invitational, Fond du Lac high school
December 23, 2017; Badger State Invitational, Madison (host; Stoughton high school chool)
January 6, 2018; Bauer Brawl Invitational, West Allis Nathan Hale high school
January 20, 2018; Wisconsin Wrestling Challenge Series ‘Girls Championship’ All team levels, Wausau West high school. This is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Wrestling Challenge Series Finals. Over 150 high school teams enter this event, so there may already be transportation with your high school team available.

In addition, the WWF will move its girls high school folkstyle state from March to February. This will be a USA Wrestling open event. Day memberships will be facilitated for high school athletes who are not USA Wrestling members, making it easier and less expensive to enter.
