Wisconsin Sophomore Class of ’20 Top Ten Preview (2017-2018)

10. (Tie) Charlie Stuhl-Ellsworth (Last Year-Unranked)
Stuhl burst onto the scene as Freshman, finishing as the State Runner up at the WIAA D2 Individual State Tournament and capped off his WWF Cadet Freestyle tournament with a 6th Place finish.

10. (Tie) Tommy Larson-East Troy (Last Year #10)

Larson competed admirably as an undersized Freshman, capping his first year with a 6th place WIAA D2 Individual State Tournament finish. From there, his off-season success kept going as he finished 2nd at USA Wrestling’s Folkstyle Dominate in the Dells in March and 8th at the USAW Postseason Folkstyle Nationals. Kicking off this season, Larson came home as the Champion of the Elite Division at the Grappler Fall classic at 98lbs.

9. Cody Minor-Ashwaubenon (Last Year-Unranked)
Minor came up just short last year at sectionals, finishing one spot out of qualifying in 3rd place. Since then, he has been performing extremely well. In March, Minor brought home a USAW Wrestling Dominate in the Dells title and then in May, medal in both styles at WWF Cadet FS/GR state, bringing home a championship in FS and 2nd in Greco. To kick off his sophomore season, Minor took 8th at the Grappler Fall classic in Michigan and 3rd at the JJ Intermat Classic in Minnesota.  (No photo available. 8. Cayden Henschel-West Bend East (Last Year-Unranked)
Henschel joined a Suns program coach by his dad, Brent, who was a State Champion for East in the 1990s. He didn’t disappoint as he won many big matches during the season and earned a spot as a qualifier at the WIAA D1 Individual State Tournament at 120lbs. Not satisfied, Henschel caught fire at the WWF Cadet Greco tourney, winning a State Title while also finishing 3rd in Freestyle.

7. Jalen Spuhler-Hartford (Last Year #5)
Spuhler was another incoming Freshman last year that had high expectations for himself and enjoyed a strong high school campaign, qualifying for the WIAA D1 Individual Tournament at 113lbs. His off-season got kicked off with a 2nd place finish at USA Wrestling Dominate in the Dells. The previous Fargo All-American reeled in a WWF Cadet Greco State title at 120lbs and had another solid showing at Fargo, finishing 4-2 in Cadet Greco. Spuhler jump-started his Sophomore season with an 8th place finish at USAW Preseason Nationals.

6. Brady Spaeth-Cadott (Last Year-HM)
Spaeth burst onto the scene as a Freshman, capping off his season in the WIAA D3 Individual State Tournament with a 3rd place finish at 138lbs. Not slowing down, he headed to the USAW Postseason Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa and garnered an 8th place finish in the Nation. Folkstyle season ended, but Spaeth’s success didn’t as he punched his ticket to the WWF Cadet Greco and Freestyle State podiums with a Runner-Up finish in Freestyle and 3rd place in Greco.

5. Dajun Johnson-Whitefish Bay (Last Year #10)
Johnson was another Freshman who hopped into the high school scene in a heavier weight class at 152lbs. The Blue Duke found great success and qualified for WIAA D1 Individual State Tournament. Johnson attacked his off-season with vigor, starting off with a 6th Place finish at USAW Postseason Folkstyle Nationals. In May, Johnson won WWF Cadet State Titles in both Greco and Freestyle. To start off his sophomore Folkstyle campaign, Johnson finished 5th at the JJ Intermat Classic and 7th at the USAW Preseason Folkstyle Nationals.

4. Aidan Nutter-Fennimore (Last Year-Unranked)
After qualifying for WIAA D2 Individual state at 120lbs, Nutter finished 3rd at the WWF Cadet Greco State Championships. Heading to Fargo a little under the radar, Nutter finished 7th at the difficult UWW Cadet Nationals in Greco. At Fargo, he had a memorable run to the podium, with an All-American finish of 5th in Cadet Greco at 120lbs.

3 Tyler Hannah-Viroqua (Last Year #3)
Better known as “Truck” (and one of the better nicknames around we might add), Hannah came into high school in the upper weights, where Freshmen generally struggle to find success. That didn’t stop “Truck” as he finished 3rd in D2 at 170lbs in the WIAA Individual State Tournament. “Truck” drove his talents to the Dells and came away with a WWF Cadet Greco State Championship and a 3rd place finish Freestyle. Hannah’s summer landed him in the Fargo Cadet Greco Nationals finals at 170lbs, where he finished as the National Runner-Up.

2. Keegan O’Toole-Hartland Arrowhead (Last Year #1)
Ranked 29th in the Class of 2020 in the Nation by Flowrestling, O’Toole proved what many thought was possible as he culminated his Freshman season with a WIAA D1 State Championship at 120lbs. In March, Keegan placed 4th at the prestigious FloNationals tournament at 113lbs. On the freestyle scene, O’Tooole brought home a WWF Cadet State title and then stamped his summer a blistering success with a 4th place finish in Fargo at 126lbs in Cadet Freestyle.

1. Aidan Medora-Brookfield Academy/SJMA (Last year’s WIWrestling Preseason Ranking-#2)
Ranked 20th in the Nation by Flowrestling, Medora had a memorable Freshman season on the high school scene, losing in OT of the WIAA D2 126lb State Championship match to Dustin Hatfield. After the high school season ended, Medora piled up quite the list of accomplishments in both Folkstyle and Freestyle. He finished 5th at USAW Postseason Folkstyle Nationals and was a WWF Cadet Freestyle State Champ. Medora fared well at the UWW Cadet Nationals going 4-2, but the exclamation point was cemented with his Runner up finish to Carson Manville in the Fargo Cadet Freestyle finals. Medora kicked of his Sophomore Folkstyle season with a runner up finish to Sam Stuhl at the tough JJ Intermat Classic.
