Westby grapplers are ready to embrace the grind

The Westby wrestling program took pride in having four state qualifiers last year including Riley Cade (126 pounds); Brett Cade (132); Brock Leum (182); and four-time state qualifier and 2015 state champion Ross Withington (160).

Co-head coaches Kent Mikkelson (34 years) and Rob Kirner (17 years) are hoping those kind of accomplishments generate a hunger within younger wrestlers looking for the same kind of success on the mat. They will get assistance coaching from Jason Raasch, Tyler Manning and Austin Nottestad.

The Norsemen finished the season 11-6 overall. As they return to the mat this season they will work hard to fill positions vacated by graduates Withington (160), Leum (182), Brett Cade (132), Zach Shaha (170) and Eric Schreier (220).

Some of the more seasoned wrestlers returning to the mat are senior Cole Johnson (23-18 record); and juniors, Riley Cade (31-15 record), Dillon Daute (16-11 record) and Hunter Groom (12-9 record), but every wrestler will contribute to the teams overall success.
