Tuesdays with Barry – January 30, 2018 | UW Badgers

Hello Wisconsin Wrestling Fans,

With our next dual not until February 9th, we have had the guys in doing intense training.  This is an important break in the schedule, as it allows us to train hard and also stress to our athletes the importance of taking care of themselves.  With school now back in session and the end of the season quickly approaching, its important that our athletes get enough sleep, have the right nutrition and mentally prepare. Its time to maximize their training and stay focused during this break.

This weekend we do have athletes wrestling unattached in the Don Parker Open hosted by UW-Eau Claire.  The tournament is all day Saturday, February 3rd.

Our next dual meet is Friday, February 9th at home against Nebraska.  This dual is also our Military Appreciation Night.  All military personnel, active or veteran, receive free admission for themselves and a guest with proper military identification. We will also have some special guests and will be recognizing all those that have or are currently serving our country.  Come out and see the Badgers take on the Huskers and support our service men and women.

Mark your calendars, our upcoming dual on Friday, February 16th is Alumni Appreciation night.  Keep an eye out for details soon for special alumni functions and recognition.  Sunday, February 18th is Senior Day.  Come out and support this years senior class as the team takes on Purdue.

On Wisconsin,

Coach Davis

Tuesdays with Barry – January 17, 2018 | UW Badgers

Hello Wisconsin Wrestling Fans,

*My apologies for the day late on our Tuesdays with Barry, but we had a great practice yesterday morning, followed by our annual team bowling tournament, which kept our afternoon busy. I know you will all be glad to hear that Staff Infection won for the third year in a row. Our team, made up of myself, Coach Brandvold, Coach Ruschell, Coach Eppert and our Operations Coordinator Bre, narrowly beat the Melon Heads (Eric Peissig, Jake Stilling, Seth Liegel, Ricky Robertson and Mikey Cullen) by an average of 150.67 to 147.8. It was a fun time and a great way to spend time together off the mat during winter break.

During this break in competition we coaches have been busy on the road recruiting. In the past few weeks we have been to Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Colorado meeting and evaluating prospects. We look forward to watching the progress of these young men.

Our focus now is on the upcoming weekend with two conference duals, on the road against tough opponents. This weekends lineup will be the same as Northwestern, with Cole Martin again stepping in at 149lb. Friday, we wrestle at Michigan. This match up will feature 4th ranked Logan Massa against 6th ranked Evan Wick. This is the third meeting between the two with each taking a victory. Sunday, we will be at Michigan State for our second dual of the weekend. If you arent able to make it to Michigan for the weekend, be sure to follow us on social media and online.

Next week we return home for a dual on Friday, January 26th against Indiana. We look forward to seeing you all in RED at the Field House.

On Wisconsin,

Coach Davis

Tuesdays with Barry – January 9, 2018

Hello Wisconsin Wrestling Fans,

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you all enjoyed the holiday season and are ready for some exciting wrestling in the next few months. We have been keeping the guys busy through winter break, starting off with the Midlands Championships. While we didnt have the tournament showing we would have liked, our guys learned a lot and are working every day to improve.

After the first of the year, we took the team to Ellsworth High School for an open practice. It was great connecting with the community up in Ellsworth and showing them what a collegiate practice looks like. We have enjoyed getting the team out to practices throughout the state, to meet our fans and supporters and to connect with Wisconsinites outside of Madison. We are done with these practices for this year, but we look to do them again next year. Be sure to keep your eye out for Badgers in your community!

We have a tough stretch of competition coming up these next few weeks, with four important Big Ten match ups. The first being against Northwestern this Friday. The dual is at Northwestern at 7pm on Friday night in the Patten Gym (different location this year due to construction on their normal gym space). Come support the team; we anticipate this being a close dual and love to hear our fans in the stands.

Next week we head on the road again with two more tough match ups against Michigan and Michigan State, before we are home on the 26th of January against Indiana.

On Wisconsin,

Coach Davis
