Past weeks results
It was a split decision over the weekend with the loss at 7 Ohio State and the win in the match with Maryland. It was a tough night against the defending National Champion Buckeyes. There were certainly some bright spots with Andrew Crone again winning in overtime and 3 Zeke Jordan winning his match-up against 2 Bo Jordan. Ryan Christensen fell in OT to the Buckeye returning All-American.
On Sunday we won 7 of 10 matches against Maryland. In two of the three matches we lost we gave up back points off a takedown or reversal early which put us 6 points down. We rallied and nearly won both. Many may not know the new back point rule this year with 4 points awarded for holding someone in the near fall position for 4 seconds. This rule has made it very difficult to come back when a 4 second tilt has become effectively equivalent to scoring 3 takedowns.Matches this week
On Thursday we will be at Central Michigan for a match that will be carried on ESPN3 at 7pm Eastern Time. The 20th ranked Chippewas have a line-up dominated by upperclassmen and will be a challenge as we will need to replace a couple of our regular starters for this match.
On Sunday we will host our final dual of the year with Northwestern. The Wildcats have been in some turmoil this year with a coaching change just before the start of the season. They have been competing well in recent weeks as they lost to 17 Minnesota by 2 and 13 Illinois by 1. The NM match starts at noon and since there is no other sporting conflicts that day we need a great turnout to support the Team. Make sure you head over to Lucky’s afterwards to socialize with the other fans and the coaches.
Medbery earns silver in Ukraine
This past weekend Connor Medbery and Nazar Kulchytskyy both represented the USA in the international tournament in Ukraine. Connor made the finals and finished second to World Silver medalist Zazeev of Ukraine. Needless to say that Connor will be a major player in the NCAA Championships at 285lbs next year for the Badgers!
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the final dual of the season on Sunday!
