Alumni, Friends and Fans,
Dual Meet Success
As many of you are aware, this past weekend we came away with wins over Indiana and Northern Iowa. We did not wrestle our best against Indiana. We didnt control our weight well causing us to come out flat. In those types of atmospheres, you need to create your own energy we didnt do that well on Friday night. The difference again this year over the past is this Team still found a way to win the dual.
The match with Northern Iowa was a good win over a very good team. We competed well on Sunday after getting back from Indiana at 2:30am on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the team during a winter storm!
The upperclassmen lead the way with wins by Zeke Jordan, TJ Ruschell, Ricky Robertson and Connor Medbery. TJ wrestled this weekend 7 months after ACL surgery. He worked very hard during those 7 months and we are glad to have him back. What I am also very pleased about is the performance by our 3 redshirt freshman in the line-up. Eli Stickley came back from 3 points down in the 3rd period to win in overtime against the 18th ranked wrestler at 133lbs. Cole Martin continues to show why he deserves to be ranked in the top 15 at 141lbs with two major decisions this weekend. Hunter Ritter also competed well even though he ended up on the wrong side of an 8-7 score against the top 20 ranked UNI wrestler at 184lbs. Ritter had the lead nearly the entire match and lost going after another takedown in the final 20 seconds. That offensive mindset, with his skill and drive, will serve him well as he gains more experience at this level.
At least from competition as we will not compete again until the Midlands on December 29-30. We have given our guys off until Wednesday as they are preparing for final exams, which begin at the end of this week and continue through next week. We have wrestled more matches than nearly every team in the NCAA this 1st semester, it will be good for the guys to have some time to focus solely on academics and get some good training in. Have a great rest of your week!
