place either second or third, Markesan got championships from Carter Hunter
(138 pounds), Hunter Newton (170), and Tanner Weber (195), and the two

KAUKAUNA, Wisc. – For the Thompson Warriors wrestling team, the trip to
Wisconsin to compete in the Kaukauna Cheesehead Invitational tournament was
more than just a chance to see another part of the country. It was a chance
to finally compete.

Matt Verbeten has a dilemma every year.
He and co-head coach Bill Verbeten take their charges, the Wrightstown
Tigers wrestling team, to one of the toughest prep tournaments in the
country, the Kaukauna Cheesehead Invitational. Eight of the top 50 teams in
the country compete in this tournament, including 21 individuals that are
nationally ranked in their weight class.

Hortonville wrestlers third in Minnesota

The Hortonville wrestling team finished in third place in the 16-team Rick
Lee Duals at Bemidji State (Minn.) University on Saturday.
Hortonville had a 1-2 record in three matches Saturday, beating Perham 37-
24, then losing to Frazee 38-27 and Kenyon-Wanamingo 34-21.

LA CROSSE — Stratford won three individual titles and had two others finish
in the top three as it rolled to its third-straight Division 3 title at the
Bi-State Wrestling Classic on Dec. 29-30 at the La Crosse Civic Center.

Depth has started to become a big strength for the Eau Claire North wrestling team, especially in the lower weight classes.
So Thursday night, there was really no better place to start than in the thick of those lighter weights — 132 pounds — to gain some early momentum.
Wrightstown Tigers dropped by Oconto Falls in conference dual meet
For nearly 20 years, the Wrightstown Tigers wrestling team dominated the Olympian Conference, winning 17 conference titles in that timespan. The Olympian Conference came to a close last year (with the Tigers winning the final conference title) and Wrightstown joined the newly formed Northeastern Conference, and suffered their first dual meet loss in the new conference, dropping a 33-27 decision to the Oconto Falls Panthers on Thursday night.

The Trojans’ 126-pound senior won for the first time this season against Horicon sophomore Bill Condon after being pinned a month ago and losing by two points on Saturday, providing one of a few highlights for Dodgeland in its 44-27, Trailways South Conference loss to the Marshmen on Thursday night.

While most grapplers are front row at events watching their teammates, the fact that Bird spends most of his time waiting for the podium keeps him on a small island, albeit a successful one.

With four state qualifiers back from last season, the Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) wrestling team will look to win the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) Title for the first time this season.
The Panthers returned eight regulars from last season’s varsity lineup, when they finished second in the conference behind eventual WIAA Division 1 State Semifinalist Wisconsin Rapids.

Even though the Ellsworth wrestling team finished first among Division 2 teams at the Bi-State Classic last week, co-head coach Mark Matzek felt the squad had the potential to do even better.
Spencer/Columbus wrestling captures team title at Merrill Invite
MERRILL – Tim Bauer won the 138-pound title and five others placed third as the Spencer/Columbus Catholic wrestling team won the team championship at the Bluejay Challenge on Saturday at Merrill High School.
Bauer improved to 17-3 by beating Stetson Potrykus of Wittenberg-Birnamwood 6-2 in the 138-pound title match.
