Alumni, Friends and Family,
Lawinger into UW Athletic Department Hall of Fame
Congratulations to Rick Lawinger as the W Club has just announced his selection to be inducted into the UW Athletic Department Hall of Fame! Rick will join Russ Hellickson, Andy Rein, Jim Jordan, Jack Reinwand, Matt Demeray, Jim Haines, Donny Pritzlaff, Lee Kemp, Ed Templin along with Coaches George Martin and Duane Kleven representing the Badger Wrestling program. As our first NCAA Champion, Rick is well deserving of this honor and recognition. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, September 16 with the presentation of the honorees at the Wisconsin-Georgia State football game on the 17th.
For those who would like to join us, we will have an open house in the wrestling office and wrestling room on the 16th and will walk over to Union South for the induction dinner. We will send everyone the invitation to attend in a separate e-mail. We know there will be a big turnout to support Rick!
The Wick twins again had an outstanding showing at the Junior Nationals in Fargo, led this time by Zander finishing 2nd at 152lbs. Evan lost a tight one point match in the semis and injury defaulted back to sixth. Earlier this summer he pinned the Fargo runner-up in the first period. The Wicks, along with Jake Covaciu and Brady Wetter will be leading the way for our incoming freshman.
Liegel to Haiti
Last week Badger Junior Seth Liegel went to Haiti with a medical mission group out of Iowa. He told us it was a great and humbling experience seeing what life is like for those living in one of the poorest countries in the world. Can’t emphasize enough how proud of Seth we are. Our staff goal is to win individual and team NCAA titles, but the written mission of our staff is to “Build and influence young men who will make a positive impact on society during and after their time as a Badger Wrestler”. Seth’s commitment last week is a great example.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Steak Fry on Thursday!
