Jayden Laurent wins 2017 Junior Pan Am Gold Medal

Congratulations to Jayden Laurent of Denmark, WI, on her 2017 Junior Pan Am Gold. Jayden traveled with Team USA to Lima, Peru, just after school got out for the summer.
“Laurent topped a loaded 67 kg/147 lbs. weight class that was determined in a five-athlete round-robin style bracket. The Wisconsin native began her day with a first-period pin over 2016 Senior Pan American runner-up Yudari Sanchez Rodriguez of Cuba. She continued with two technical fall victories and a win-by-forfeit to grab the gold medal.”  READ the full article here

Midwest Women’s Wrestling Tour Across America
Coach Kevin Black took a bus full of Wisconsin and Minnesota athletes on a tour to the Men’s World Team Trials in Lincoln, NE, as well as 3 days training at the OTC in Colorado Springs, CO, with the Senior Women’s National Team. Dubbed the “first annual”, plans are in the works for another tour next year.
Coach Kevin blogged during the trip. You can read up on how the athletes spent their time here
US MARINE CORPS CADET & JUNIOR NATIONALS

  • This camp is mandatory for wrestlers representing Team WI in Fargo.
July 16-22, USMC/Vaughn Cadet/Junior Freestyle Nationals, Fargo, ND  EVENT WEBSITE

Fargo Nationals is here! It is a big tournament and, generally, a well run tournament. It is held at the Fargo Dome. Lots of seating for spectators and good views of the action on multiple mats. The finals are really exciting. Hotel rooms are filling up – I recommend calling now to reserve your room.

  • Athletes, coaches and managers will stay at a separate hotel from parents. Those hotel rooms are paid for by the athlete WWF fees.
  • We do not have a hotel block for parents; however, there are many nice, inexpensive hotels right by the West Acres Mall in Fargo.
  • Fargo registration is done by the WWF. There is no individual registration for this tournament. Final commitments are due now to Pat Kilty or Coach Kevin Black.
  • Wrestlers will be bused by the WWF from River Falls to Fargo and back to River Falls after the tournament.

Schedule:

  • Cadets (2001-2002) weigh-in Sunday at 6 pm. Tournament begins Monday morning.
  • Cadets Finals, Medal Matches & Awards on Tuesday, 11 am – 1:15 pm
  • Juniors (high school aged) weigh-in on Wednesday at 7 am
  • Juniors 2nd day weigh-in (2+ lb weight allowance on Thursday at 7 am
