Tuesdays with Barry 2-14-2017

Its hard to believe we only have one month left of our season, but as the high school tournament series is in full swing and the Big Ten tournament is on the horizon its that time of year.  Focuses are narrowing, workouts shortening, intensity building, and expectations are set here in Madison.  Its going to be a fun month!

We are coming off a weekend where we had two Big Ten dual meet victories!  Anytime you win in the big ten there are positives you can take out and build on.  Friday night we defeated Purdue in West Lafayette.  On one hand we came out flat at a few weights, not scoring on all our attacks and not riding like we need to.  On the other hand, however, we thought the team did some things weve been working on and started building momentum for the rest of the season.  Wins from Jimenez, Crone, Ruschell, Jordan, Ritter, and Medbery carried us to victory.

Sunday in front of our home crowd at the UW Field House we defeated Michigan 19-18.  This was a special dual as we had over 60 Badger Wrestling Alums in attendance.  It was great to see so many familiar faces and some guys who havent been around the program for quite some time.  It was a good start to the building of an army to get behind our current team.  A special thanks to Coach Ruschell for all the outreach to these alumni.

*If you have wrestled at all for the Badgers and havent been contacted please email Coach Ruschell at KMR@athletics.wisc.edu

This upcoming weekend will be the last opportunity to see the 2016-17 Badgers here in Madison.  Friday night we take on the Michigan State Spartans at 7pm.  MSU has improved from last season and has some good things going in their program.  We will have to wrestle well to win our final big ten dual.  Sunday we take on the Chippewas of Central Michigan.  They have a tough dual team and will be favored in 6 of the 10 weights.  We hope for a big crowd to see off our senior class.  Being honored that day will be Ryan Taylor, Santonio Cathery, Rylan Lubeck, Jarod Donar, TJ Ruschell, Isaac Jordan, and Connor Medbery

A big time THANK YOU to these young men who have given so much to the program.  We know they will make you a proud Badger supporter as they move on to the next chapter of their lives.

Hope to see you this weekend, On Wisconsin!
