Tuesdays with Barry 2-1-2017

Thank you to everyone who made the trip to Madison for our dual last Friday versus Penn State.  There were around 2,000 people in the stands.  Penn State showed us what the number 1 team in the country looks like and what we are building towards!  Connor Medbery and Isaac Jordan both beat opponents ranked 4th in the country and Eli Stickley had a great match scoring a tech fall.

Connor Medbery was celebrated by the Badger faithful as he became the 2nd Badger this year to amass 100 wins for his career.  It was great to have his parents and fiance on hand to celebrate this milestone.

Also from the PSU dual Isaac Jordan has earned the Big Ten Wrestling of the Week with his overtime victory over No. 4 ranked Vincenzo Joseph.  Congrats Zeke!!!

On Saturday we had 11 wrestlers compete in the Duhawk Open in Dubuque, IA.  Nine guys finished the tournament on the stand.  Evan Wick (unattached) looked dominant en route to his tournament championship.  He is now 16-3 with wins over the number 7,10, and 11 ranked wrestlers in the country.  Mason Reinhardt also won the Duhawk title going 3-0 on the day.  TJ Ruschell went undefeated in the three matches he wrestled. TJ defaulted the final for precautionary reasons.  Johnny Jimenez took 2nd in the toughest bracket. Luke Rowh finished 2nd at 141. Ben Stone made it to the finals at heavyweight.  Jacob Covaciu (unattached) improved to 17-2 on the year, losing a wild 1st round match and coming back with 4 straight falls to finish 3rd.  Michael Cullen finished third at 133 lbs.  Zander Wick (wrestling unattached) made it to the semis before having to default out with an injury.  Finally, Pat Spray (unattached) and Brady Wetter (unattached) both notched some good wins at their new weight classes (149 and 197 respectively).

The team will head out on Thursday for Iowa City where we take on the Hawkeyes Friday at 7pm.

Our starting line up in Iowa will be:

125- Jens Lantz
133- Eli Stickley
141- Cole Martin
149- Andrew Crone
157- Jared Scharenbrock
165- Isaac Jordan
174- Ryan Christensen
184- Hunter Ritter
197- Mason Reinhardt
HWT- Connor Medbery

This Saturday will be the last open event for our non starters to get in some good competition. They will be in Eau Claire at the Blugold Open.  If you are in Western Wisconsin come on out and see some Badgers compete.

Have a great rest of your week, thanks for your support!

On Wisconsin!
