Alumni, Friends and Family,

Cliff Keen Invitational
This past week was a great week of training with Thursday and Friday becoming the Thanksgiving weekend. We had two practices on Saturday and then went as a Team to watch the movie “Creed”. We practiced again on Sunday as we have a short week with departing Thursday morning for the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas. This is one of the tougher tournaments with 32 teams registered including Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, and Cornell. It will be a great test for where we are currently at.

International results
It was an outstanding weekend for Wisconsin athletes representing Team USA. Both Connor and Nazar won titles at the Deglane Challenge in Nice, France. Nazar beat the Romanian in the finals that was the 2014 University World Silver medalist and placed 8th in this year’s World Championship. Prior to that match Nazar beat wrestlers from Cuba, Iran and France. Connor beat a 3 time Olympian from Romania, a Pan Am Games Bronze medalist from Cuba and a 7 time World Team member from Spain before finishing off the Iranian.
Jesse earned the only USA Greco-Roman medal in the Golden Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan, when he picked up the Bronze medal. His only loss was to the 2013 World Bronze medalist from Uzbekistan in the semis. He defeated the Junior Asian Champion and the University World Champion, both from Iran on his way to the Bronze.
In all, Jesse, Connor and Nazar went 4-0 against Iran!
Below is a link to the International Wrestling Federation website which has posted Jesse’s throw against the Columbian as the “Big move of Day 3”. Check it out.

Recruiting
Recruiting is a never-ending process. We will continue to look for young men that we believe can make a difference for the Badger Wrestling program. We are still looking at the senior class but the main focus now goes to the juniors. Recruiting changed dramatically a couple years ago when the NCAA allowed the contacting of prospective student athletes at the start of their junior year instead of after the year ended. With this change many athletes are making their initial college commitments a year earlier than they used to. I have attached a link to the announcement of next year’s class with the signing of Jacob Covaciu (IN), Evan Wick (CA) and Zander Wick (CA). I will have more to say on these individuals at a later date. These are quality young men and great wrestlers as well.
