Alumni, Friends and Family,

Big Week Ahead

The first big test of the NCAA wrestling season is this weekend with the Cliff Keen Open in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday. Along with our Badger Team, several top 20 teams will be participating including; Arizona State, Cornell, Iowa State, Michigan, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Most weights will have multiple returning All-Americans and other ranked individuals. The toughest weight appears to be at 285 where 4 of the top 5 are competing (would have had all 5 but Snyder from Ohio State is competing for the USA in Ukraine) plus two other top 15 guys as well. This tournament will be a good test to see where we are at after our strong showing at the Wolfpack Open.

There will also be several Badgers headed to Northern Iowa for the UNI Open on Saturday. This tournament will give our guys not going to Vegas the opportunity to get prepared in case they are needed later in the season or to continue to get matches in during their redshirt year.

Cliff Keen Line-up
125 Jens Lantz
133 Eli Stickley
141 Cole Martin
149 Andrew Crone
157 Jared Scharenbrock
165 Isaac Jordan
174 Ryan Christensen
184 Hunter Ritter
197 Ricky Robertson
285 Connor Medbery

Upcoming Home Dual

On Sunday, December 11th at noon we will be taking on Northern Iowa at the UW Fieldhouse. Northern Iowa has a solid team and has always been a challenge. It will be a great opportunity to see our team in action early in the season.

Badger Alumni

Below is a link to a recent article about one of our NCAA Champions. Jeff Walter won the NCAA title at heavyweight near the beginning of my coaching career 20 years ago. Even though Jeff hadn’t won the Big Ten title, he took advantage of the saying “you don’t have to win all the time, you just have to win when it counts”. Jeff went into the NCAA tournament as the 6th seed and EARNED the NCAA Championship that weekend. Jeff will always be an NCAA Champion- he was the best when it counted!

From; The Daily Item:
20 years later, Shikellamy’s Jeff Walter still appreciates the National Title he won wrestling for Wisconsin

Go Badgers!
