Tuesdays with Barry 1-17-2017
Happy Tuesday from Madison, Wisconsin!
We recently returned from a road trip that took us to Lincoln, NE and Minneapolis, MN. Connor, Isaac and Crone walked away with wins against a strong Nebraska squad. Senior Jarod Donar got a chance to compete at 157lbs and Jake Stilling stepped in at 184lbs. Ricky Robertson wrestled a tough match against a top 10 opponent but came up a point short. They have an upperclassman heavy team, we are the opposite and it showed. Overall they wrestled more physical than we did. I’m thankful for this dual being in January, we will make adjustments and get better results the next time we see some of those guys.
The match against our rivals from across the border was a classic college rivalry dual. We want to say a big THANKS to all the Badger fans that made the trip to Minneapolis. The dual meet split 5-5 matches but due to bonus points we ended up on the losing side of an 18-15 match. We wrestled much better than we did on Friday, the guys came out fired up and wrestled hard. TJ Ruschell posted the marquee win of the dual with a decision over top ten ranked Jake Short. Again we will make adjustments and keep getting better heading into our next competition.
We’ve just received our NCAA ticket allocation for the National Tournament in St Louis, MO. We do have some tickets currently available. If you would like to come support the Badgers in March please contact administrative assistant Breanne Eoff at BME@athletics.wisc.edu.
We are off next weekend. This comes at a great time after our long road trip and some more big ten duals on the horizon. This will be one of our most intense training cycles of the season. We will continue to build our conditioning and better our skills.
Thanks for your support. We keep striving to compete in a way that will make you proud.
