"Wrestler of the Week"

With Brad Baker

(1/25/2006)

Week 6

Just as we did last season, we are going to let the fans pick the wrestler of the week.  Our weeks will start on Monday and end the following Sunday.  We then will give you guys a few days or so to send in nominations then begin the voting.  When sending in nominations, please state why they deserve to be the wrestler of the week, who they beat, and when/where at.  The voting will usually begin on Wednesday or Thursday and end on Sunday Night.  If you would like to make a nomination for the following week, please send an email to bbaker@wiwrestling.com

Week 6 (1/9/06 – 1/15/06)

Trevor Brandvold, River Falls, 189, 12
Trevor had four pins including a 1:23 pin over Minnesota’s number one ranked 189-pounder. Trevor has also recently been named to the USA Wrestling dream team that will face New Jersey in April.

Other Nominees:

Steven Monk, Wausau West, 112, 9

Steven improved his record to 27-1 with a pair of Wisconsin Valley conference wins over ranked opponents. Against Merrill he defeated sixth ranked Brodie Altfillisch 15-5. A few days later, Steven defeated second ranked Josh Chappa of Wisconsin Rapids 5-4.

Malachi Root, Green Bay Preble/East, 112, 10

Malachi defeated two ranked wrestlers to win the Irish Invitational. In the semifinals, Malachi defeated Freedom’s Kyle Klueskens 13-1. In the finals, Malachi defeated Arrowhead’s Andrew Zwirlein 11-0. Klueskens and Zwirlein are ranked 9th and 6th in their respective divisions. Malachi is now 32-1.

Andrew Lukasko, Edgar, 152, 11

Andrew pinned Hudson’s Nick Yoder to win the championships of the Chi-Hi tournament. Yoder entered the match ranked third in division one at 152 pounds. Andrew is now 23-0 and ranked number one in division three.

NOTE: There are many others that I understand deserve a spot at least as nominees. For future weeks, please send in your nominees by Monday night. Be sure to include the wrestlers full name, high school, coaches name and number and the wrestlers recent accomplishments, including significant recent wins/accomplishments.
