"Wrestler of the Week"

With Brad Baker

(12/22/2005)

Week 2

Just as we did last season, we are going to let the fans pick the wrestler of the week. Our weeks will start on Monday and end the following Sunday. We then will give you guys a few days or so to send in nominations then begin the voting. When sending in nominations, please state why they deserve to be the wrestler of the week, who they beat, and when/where at. The voting will usually begin on Wednesday or Thursday and end on Sunday Night. If you would like to make a nomination for the following week, please send an email to bbaker@wiwrestling.com

Week 2

Jason Brantmeier, DePere, 140, 12

Congratulations to Jason on winning the wrestler of the week award for week 2. Jason’s pin with 3 seconds left in the second period helped DePere defeat Bay Port for the first time in the school’s history. Heading into the final match, the Redbirds were losing 26-31 and needed Jason to get a pin to win the dual. Jason is now 8-2.

Other Nominees

Chad Schultz, Mauston, 119, 10

In the fourth round of the Tomah Scramble, Chad defeated Viroqua’s Jed Domke 12-5. Domke is ranked fifth at 112 pounds and is a returning state qualifier. Chad, who is unranked, would eventually win the 119-pound Tomah Scramble championship.

Sean Garrigan, Mauston, 275, 11
Sean defeated Cashton’s Derek Laufenberg 4-3 in the fourth round of the Tomah Scramble on his way to the title of the 16-team event. Laufenberg is ranked second in Division 3. Garrigan is not ranked.

Steven Monk, Wausau West, 112, 9

Steven defeated Cumberland’s Blake Cifaldi 3-1 in the finals of the Rice Lake Invitational. Cifaldi entered the match ranked fourth in division 2 and placed fifth in the state last year.

James Hoisington, Cumberland, 215, 12

James defeated Westby’s Tyler Manning 6-2 in the semifinals of the Rice Lake Invitational. Manning entered the match ranked third in division two.

NOTE: There are many others that I understand deserve a spot at least as nominees. For future weeks, please send in your nominees by Monday night. Be sure to include the wrestlers full name, high school, coaches name and number and the wrestlers recent accomplishments, including significant recent wins/accomplishments.
