Week 8
As we head into the conference tournaments, you can
start to notice which wrestlers have been working hard, and which one’s
started out their season strong and haven’t improved that much. Many
wrestlers have turned some heads by defeating some higher ranked wrestlers
along with winning some stacked weight classes at a few tournaments. You,
the fans voted Green Bay Preble/East’s Malachi Root as week seven’s
wrestler of the week. Since many of you seem to like the new way of
picking the wrestler of the week, we will continue to do so. I would
encourage many of you to send in nominations; especially those that
complain that so and so didn’t get noticed. This is your chance, and if
you would like to make a nomination for the following week, please drop me
an email at
Bbaker@wiwrestling.com. When making nominations, please include
recent victories of notice and scores as well.
Week 7 wrestler of
the week
Malachi Root, Green Bay Preble/East, 112, Fr
Two weeks ago, Malachi Root defeated Green Bay
West/Southwest’s Spencer Peterson 9-1 in a battle between two of Green
Bay’s finest wrestlers. Peterson entered the dual undefeated on the
season. Malachi, who was coming off his first loss of the season the
weekend before, is currently ranked fifth in division one and is 37-1.
Malachi and had a tremendous season so far and has defeated many state
qualifiers and ranked wrestlers. Although this is the least of his
accomplishments, he has been nominated three times for wrestler of the
week. This past weekend, Malachi had yet another outstanding tournament
defeating Brown Deer’s Brandon Kircher in the championship of the Door
County Classic. That for some people could be worthy of another
nomination, however, these are no longer surprising wins for him. |
