Nutter heading to Northern Michigan University Greco OTS -Tuesday, July 26, 2016
Alston Nutter (Fennimore) will be moving on to Northern Michigan University Greco OTS and forgoing his final two years of high school in Wisconsin.
Alston Nutter (Fennimore) commits to Northern Michigan University Greco OTS (Olympic Training Site) program full-time. He will be engaged in dual credit options, meaning he will be taking college level courses that will apply to his high school diploma and college completion at the same time.
Going into the 15-16 season Alston was the number one ranked sophomore in Wisconsin and ninth ranked Pound for Pound Wisconsin wrestler.
Nutter, carrying a 3.8 GPA, has 9 college credits via classes designated as dual credit at Fennimore high school.
He finished his sophomore year with a career high school record 98-7, a state championship and state-runner finish up while contributing to Fennimore High School’s 2016 Team State Championship.
Alston finished 8th in Cadet Greco competition at Fargo as an 8th Grader, and placed 2nd in Akron and Fargo his freshman year in Greco.
Internationally he earned Silver at the Netherlands Greco Easter Battle, Silver in Sweden, and Silver in Spain with vertical pairing winning his side of the bracket at these tournaments.
A week before Akron this spring Alston suffered a ‘Morel lesion’ injury to his arm, tearing tissue away from the bone in his forearm requiring hospitalization. Following Akron an orthopedic surgeon was consulted and was required to have tight wraps to reconnect the tissue and then therapy to decrease excess fluid produced by a compromised lymphatic system.
After being unable to wrestle for eight weeks recently cleared to practice wrestling. On July 24 he headed to the OTC in Colorado Springs to train with the cadet and junior world team members.
