Macey Kilty competed in the World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia on Thursday, September 15, 2016 capturing  the bronze medal in the 49kg division for the United States.

TBILISI, Georgia – Macey Kilty and Gracie Figueroa have announced themselves to the World.

Both Americans posted breakout performances at the 2016 Cadet World Championships held at New Sports Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia by scoring bronze medals in women’s freestyle competition on Thursday evening.

Kilty left no doubt in her 49 kg/108 lbs. bronze medal match against Cadet European silver medalist Zhala Aliyeva of Azerbaijan. From the first whistle Kilty was on the offensive, notching six takedowns and picking up a 13-2 technical fall win.

“It feels pretty good. It’s something I’ve been working for for a long time,” Kilty said after her bronze medal performance. “I’ve still got two more years to prove that I’m good enough to get the gold.”

Stratford’s Kilty qualifies for world team

STRATFORD – Anyone who saw Macey Kilty at the WIAA individual state wrestling tournament knows she is a competitor.

As just the second female to qualify and reach the state finals in Wisconsin history, it’s clear she can have success wrestling against the boys.

This spring, Kilty has been balancing her time between playing softball for the Stratford softball team and continuing training and competing in wrestling.

In between practices, games and homework, Kilty found the time to earn to travel it Irving, Texas, to compete in the Body Bar Women’s Nationals, a freestyle qualifying event for the USA World team.

Kilty, completing at 49 kilograms (108 pounds) in the Cadet Division, won four matches to reach the finals, where she won the best of three series 2-0. She won the first bout 16-5 and the second 10-0 over Stefana Jelicic of Arizona.
