Lasecki of Pulaski to join National Hall of Fame

Jerry Lasecki, 1972 Pulaski graduate and wrestling fan, managed the wrestling team in high school and continued to follow and inspire Pulaski athletes since graduating.

Jerry has served as an inspiration to Pulaski athletes and others his entire life. Lasecki had polio as a child and has been in a wheel chair the majority of his life and has remained one of the biggest fans of Pulaski wrestling.

Thursday, January 12, at the Pulaski wrestling team alumni night Jerry Lasecki was surprised with a big announcement.

With over 40 Pulaski wrestling alumni and former coaches in attendance, Pulaski High School graduate Jerry Lasecki learned he will be receiving the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Courage Award. Four men, who all coached together at Pulaski when Lasecki was a student manager, Jim Richie, Emil Kuhn, Joe Kind and Don Hartman were in attendance for the suprise announcement.

Jim Richie (Pulaski head coach during Lasecki’s high school years.) made the announcement to the packed house of fans and alumni

Lasecki is the fifth man from the Pulaski area in that era to enter the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Jim Richie, Emil Kuhn, Joe Kind and Don Hartman are also members.

Lasecki’s connection to the other four is just part of the story. It is a complex coaching tree to say the least. Ryan Deprey, current Pulaski head coach, wrestled at Luxemburg-Casco where Emil Kuhn was his coach. Kuhn was student teaching at Pulaski when Lasecki was a student in 1970. Don Hartman coached Emil Kuhn at Oconto High School prior to teaching at Pulaski. Joe Kind was coached by Wisconsin Hall of Fame member Kirby Symes at Ellsworth. Jim Richie was mentored by Jim Douglas (Wisconsin Hall of Fame Coleman coach) when Richie taught at Coleman. Emil Kuhns first and only job was at Luxemburg-Casco where he was an assistant for three years to Wisconsin Hall of Fame coach Frank Chaluppa, before becoming the head coach.
