Jordan, Medbery win matches at 51st NWCA All-Star Classic

Badger seniors Isaac Jordan (165lb.) and Connor Medbery (Hwt.) won their respective matches at the 51st National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic held Saturday, November 5, 2017 at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center.

Twenty individual matches were contested; ten ‘Main Event Bouts’ and ten ‘Showcase Bouts’ each. The Main Bouts consisted of action in the ten official NCAA weight classes. The Showcase Bouts involved wrestlers with local interest and connections or had other appeal.

No. 2 nationally ranked Jordan defeated No. 3 ranked Daniel Lewis (Missouri sophomore) by decision 5-3. Medbery (ranked 3rd nationally) defeated second ranked Ty Walz of Virginia Tech by a score of 5-2. All four wrestlers have achieved NCAA All-American status. Jordan was 2nd while Lewis and Walz both finished 4th at the NCAA tournament in New York last season. Medbery placed 4th at the 2015 NCAA tournament in St. Louis and was a training partner for the USA at the Rio Olympics during a red shirt season in 2015-2016.

Jordan and Medbery scored two takedowns each enroute to their victories. Medbery never trailed, while Jordan had fallen behind 0-3 prior to his takedowns and a point for riding time secured the win.
