Stratford wrestling unbeaten at Neenah Team Dual Invitational
Marshfield finishes 2-2
Ten Stratford wrestlers finish 5-0.
NEENAH – Stratford went a perfect 5-0 to win the team title and Marshfield finished 2-2 at the Neenah Team Dual Invitational on Saturday at Neenah High School.
Stratford rolled in dominating fashion, defeating Marshfield 62-0, Manitowoc 76-6, Neenah 63-9, D.C. Everest 62-12 and Pulaski 51-18. (Read more)
Oak Creek wrestlers build around five state returnees

After back-to-back Southeast Conference titles and a WIAA regional title in 2015, the Oak Creek wrestling team will build around five returning state qualifiers while trying to fill in a few holes.
“We are a little inexperienced this year compared to last year,” Knight coach Matt Sommerville said. “I think we have the talent in the room to be very successful. As a coaching staff, we have to try and bring that talent out to achieve our goals.”
The Knights are off to a 2-0 start in Southeast Conference duals and will host archrival Franklin in a 7 p.m. dual Thursday, Dec. 17. (Read more)
Weyauwega-Fremont wrestlers host Akey Duals By Greg Seubert
Ripon wins, Weyauwega-Fremont places fourth
Ripon won all five of its wrestling matches Dec. 12 to win the Akey Duals in Weyauwega.
The Tigers picked up wins over Weyauwega-Fremont, Waupaca, Chilton/Hilbert, Seymour and Wausau East.
W-F placed fourth with a 2-3 record, while Waupaca went 0-5. (Read more)

Freund returns to Ellsworth
Mike Freund is only a junior at Ellsworth High School, but he already has a distinction few other wrestlers will ever experience in their careers.
Freund won consecutive team state championships with two different schools over the past two seasons. As a freshman, he was on the roster as part of the 2014 Ellsworth Division 2 state championship team. But the following season Freund became a starter at 285-pounds with the Spring Valley-Elmwood wrestling team and was a factor in its Division 3 championship last March.

FOUNTAIN CITY — When Earl Murty took over as the Cochrane-Fountain City High School wrestling coach in 2012, the Pirates had three kids on the roster.
A few years later, the program has 11 wrestlers — and counting.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Keaton Kluever, Kaukauna wrestling: The Ghosts’ sophomore heavyweight wrestler delivered a critical pin in Kaukauna’s 34-29 Fox Valley Association victory over Hortonville last Thursday. (Read more)
Prescott takes 18th at Eau Claire invite
The Prescott wrestling team finished 18th out of 23 total teams at the Eau Claire North Husky Invitational last Saturday hosted by Eau Claire North High School.
Ty Sanford and Dillon Kimmen both finished the highest among Prescott wrestlers at the event. Kimmen ended up placing second at 220 pounds after three wins got him to the finals, including two pins in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Kimmen ended up falling to Plainview-Elgin-Millville’s Isaac Breuer by pin in the championship match. (Read more)
Cole Warzynski named Stevens Point Journal Athlete of the Week
The latest Wisconsin Wrestling Online rankings are out and the veteran wrestler is ranked No. 2 in Division 2 at 285 pounds, the best of any wrestler in the area. Warzynski scored a pin against Bennett Gunderson at 3:38 in his most recent match in the 42-40 loss against Bonduel. According to matches reported by Almond-Bancroft/Pacelli on trackwrestling.com, the defending Division 3 state champion remains undefeated this season, including four pins.

Westby Wrestlers pick up win at home

Westby grapplers hosted Weston/Ithaca on Thursday, Dec. 10 and traveled to Tomah on Saturday, Dec. 12.
12-10-15: Westby 45, Ithaca/Weston 24
Westby wrestlers defeated Ithaca/Weston in Thursday’s non-conference wrestling match by a score of 45-24. The Norsemen put up the first points of the match when Justin Erdman pinned his man at 152 pounds. Ithaca/Weston came right back claiming pins at 160 and 170 pounds over Westby’s Grant Fremstad and Cody Russell.
12-12-15: Tomah Scramble
Westby participated in the annual Tomah Scramble on Saturday, Dec. 12 finishing the day with 207 points.
Growing a young team takes time and patience and Westby coaches believe the Tomah Scramble was another good tournament for the Norsemen with experienced wrestlers testing the ground to see just where they are at with other experienced wrestlers while the inexperienced wrestlers had a chance to matchup equally with others young wrestlers learning the art of competition.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa wins Eau Claire North Invite
Competing in the 23-team Eau Claire North Husky Invite Saturday, the fourth-ranked (Class 1A) Zumbrota-Mazeppa wrestling team took first place as a team after Sencer DeFrang and Maverick Jackson won individual titles.
The Cougars had 471 team points, followed by Plainview-Elgin-Millville (402), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (375), Eau Claire North (375.5) and Depere (299). (Read more)
Wisconsin Dells goes 3-1 at Dells Duals Classic

Wrestling under the dome at the friendly confines of the Wisconsin Dells Center at the Dells Duals Classic on Saturday, the Wisconsin Dells prep wrestling team went 3-1 and finished in second place in its five-team pool.
The most thrilling dual of the day for the Chiefs came in round three against St. Croix Falls.

Take away the 30 points the Wisconsin Dells wrestling team gave Madison La Follette from the five weight divisions it forfeited on Tuesday night and you would have had quite a dual meet. In fact, it would have been a three-point Wisconsin Dells victory (Read more)
Stratford Reserve sixth, Auburndale seventh at Black River Falls Wrestling Invite

BLACK RIVER FALLS – The Stratford Varsity Reserve team finished sixth and Auburndale was seventh at the Black River Falls Invitational as the 2015-16 wrestling season got underway on Saturday.
Nekoosa/Port Edwards won the team title with 161 points, 22 better than Durand. The Stratford Varsity Reserve was sixth with 80 points and Auburndale seventh with 63 points. (Read more)
