NCAA Division III Team and Individual Rankings

2005 Terry Haws Duals

A note from Billy Huebner
The Terry Haws duals at St. John’s University was another great showing for The UW-La Crosse team. The squad went 33-3 for the day in individual matches. Giving up only three losses in four duals was great for the Eagles. Individuals going four and zero were Mike Rohowitz(133), Adam Kuchnia(141), Ross Needham (157), Scott Dorn(165), Josh Zabel(184) and Ryan Allen (HWT).
Before the duals even started the staff was anxious to see one of our captains, Ross Needham, wrestle two top wrestlers from D II. The outcome turned out to be two big wins for Ross.
Ross Needham beat 6th ranked NCAA II Josh Jansen of Minnesota Moorhead 9-6 and beating formerly ranked Shawn Plumley of Southwest State 11-3.
Another great performance would come from one of our top freshmen standouts, Josh Zabel. Josh also had two huge wins by beating two ranked wrestlers. Josh beat the 7th ranked NCAA III Dan Willaert from Saint Johns 6-4. He followed that up by beating the 2nd ranked NJCAA Nick Wilkes of Itasca 4-2.

Jim Swanson also beat 5th ranked NJCAA Chris Thorenson of Itasca by a fall in 2:01 but lost to the 2nd ranked NCAA III Dan Fiecke of 9-2.

All in all it was a good day for the Eagles, going 4-0. The team accomplished this in spite of forfeiting 125 all day. Our next venture is the NWCA National Duals in Cleveland, Ohio. This should be an exciting event to say the least.

Dan Gable Open Oshkosh, WI Saturday, January 15, 2005

The Dan Gable Open will be a great venue for Wisconsin wrestling and the coaching staff at Oshkosh did a great job for what space they had.. I can see this tournament getting even tougher and bigger, which will make this open nationally recognized in the future. By bringing top Division one schools from across the country and other top schools from other divisions to Wisconsin, it will make for a great day of wrestling. If the past teams stay committed to this tournament, it will happen. This will be great for the fans to come watch some intense wrestling in the future. You can count on the eagles to bring more guys next year.

UW-La Crosse 37, UW-Whitewater 3

UW-L ranked 5th in NCAA Division III … UW-L’s Allen (285) ranked 1st NCAA Division III … Allen improves to 99-9 in three-year career …

Jan 11, 2005,

A note from Billy Huebner

Two out of three, that was the outcome in the program’s goal to win all three matches versus Whitewater’s three senior top guns, which would have meant a shut out.    We drew 141 for the first match.   With that draw the meet was to begin with Adam Kuchnia facing UW-W’s 6th ranked Nick Karls.   Adam went out there and took care of business by winning handedly 12-2.  The match at 149 was the second showdown against one of their top wrestlers, and a match we thought we would not lose.  We faced All American Ross Babcock.   Jake Larson lost this match 8-5.  Jake had a lapse at the end of the second period giving up 5 points in a matter of seconds.  For the coaching staff this is something we will correct.  We talked it over with Jake and have corrected his mistakes in the match.   The third key match was our freshmen standout Jordan Kolinksi versus 6th ranked senior John Rombca.  Jordan was trying to feel the senior out and ended up winning 10-6.   As a team it is fun winning, but there is always time for improvement in many of our wrestlers.  Which for us going two-a-days over our break is such a valuable time to make those improvements.  This is keeping us on pace in setting ourselves up to peak at the right time.

This program here is a very special and unique and that makes for having an exciting wrestling team. By Coach Skaar keeping the program working hard and by not being satisfied, the University of Wisconsin La Crosse wrestling tradition of success will be plentiful for many years to come.  For our fans, followers, alumni and recruits we will not let you down.

3rd ranked Luther College 21,  5th ranked UW-La Crosse 17

January 7th, Decorah IA

A note from Billy Huebner

We wrestled tough against the seasoned Luther team, but fell short at the end.   It is hard to say, but after the meet was over, we as a program were pretty happy and excited.  Many people outside the program thought it was going to be a blow out, with the outcome of the young La Crosse squad losing.  It turned out to be a far cry from a blowout. It was a great showing by La Crosse.   We gave the fans their money’s worth and it was a great meet to watch.  Prior to the dual, as coaches we thought we would win the dual for sure.  We thought if we win five matches we would win the dual.  In past duals, and with this line up we knew we could get a fall and a major if we would just get the five wins. But an unexpected illness overtook our starting 197 pounder, Jim Swanson. Jim would have faced Luther’s #3 ranked Wyatt Reyerson in what was to be the featured match of the night.  Last year Jim beat Reyerson twice, so we expected a win this time as well.  Tim Winker, our freshman backup 197 pounder went in Jim’s place and fought hard against a dangerous opponent.  As a team we stuck to our guns and battled. Our young squad went toe to toe against the seasoned Luther team.   It came down to the last match of the night.  Our 133 Mike Rohowitz vs. Nate Hanson. The team score was 17-17, but La Crosse fell short by losing the match 11-2.  The final outcome ended a 21-17 win by Luther.   We needed that fifth win.

The biggest match of the night was freshmen sensation Josh Chelf vs. 3rd ranked Senior Danny Adams.  We moved up Josh from 174 to wrestle 184.  We knew that Josh could beat Adams, because of his past competition this season.  Josh ended up winning the match 6-3.

We have a great chance of meeting Luther at team nationals held at Cleveland State on Jan 22-23.   It will be another great dual to come watch.   We will be out to avenge our loss.

 UW-La Crosse 37, UW-Platteville 3

A note from Billy Huebner

The biggest match of the night would be the battle to see who would be the toughest 125 freshmen in the Conference and possibly for the over all Conference Championship itself.  The two individuals would be La Crosse’s Jordan Kolinski of Illinois 11-4 vs Wisconsin HS State Champ Corey Binger 10-1.    We had total belief in Jordan winning this match.   Jordan dominated the match, Kolinski won handily with a score of 10-5.   His next test will be wrestling the 6th ranked Senior John Rombca from WhiteWater on Jan 11th.

Jordan is an animal and is just getting better every day.  He has the makings of earning All American honors by the end of the year.

UW-La Crosse vs. UW-Whitewater

January 11, 2005 at Mitchell Hall in La Crosse, WI
Final Score: UW-La Crosse 37 - UW-Whitewater 3

Two out of three -- that was the outcome in UWL's goal to win all three matches versus Whitewater's three senior top guns, which would have meant a shutout. We drew 141 for the first match. With that draw, the meet began with Adam Kuchnia facing UWW's 6th ranked Nick Karls. Adam went out there and took care of business by winning handedly 12-2. The match at 149 was the second showdown against one of their top wrestlers and a match we thought we would not lose. Jake Larsen faced All American Ross Babcock, losing 8-5. Jake had a lapse at the end of the second period, giving up five points in a matter of seconds. The coaching staff has discussed this with Jake and hopefully corrected these mistakes. The third key match was our freshmen standout Jordan Kolinksi versus 6th ranked senior John Rombca. Jordan was trying to feel the senior out and ended up winning 10-6. As a team, it was fun winning, but there is always room for improvement in many of our wrestlers. For UWL wrestling, a valuable time to work on those improvements is our two-a-day practices over the break. This is keeping us on pace in setting ourselves up to peak at the right time.

Reno, NV. -- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team had a great trip in Reno, NV finishing 11th at the Tournament of Champions. The Eagles finished with 56.0 team points. Oklahoma State University was first with 163.50 points followed by Arizona State University (103.00), Fresno State University (96.00) and the University of Oregon (87.00). A total of 19 teams participated in the tournament.

Ryan Allen led the Eagles with a third-place finish at 285-pounds, going 4-1 overall. He defeated Mike Engelmann of Minnesota State, Mankato by major decision (14-1) and Chris Dearmon of Oregon by fall (4:30) in the first two rounds.   The big match was next and as coaches we set it up with the 4th seed wrestling the 1st seed.   The seeding meeting members wanted Allen seeded 3rd , but we opposed to get the guaranteed match up against Mocco.   The first period Mocco takes Allen down with a double.   He was riding Allen hard and accumulating riding time.  When Allen finally escapes the first period is over and Mocco has over a one minute advantage on riding time.  2nd period Mocco chooses down and escapes quickly.  The whole second period was a back and fourth hand fights and attacks.  Third period Ryan chooses down and escapes immediately.   This is where the intensity picks up.   For Ryan the whole third period he had more intensity then he had in the first two periods combined.  He believed in himself, that he could win.   It was just a heck of a battle this entire period.  Both wrestlers attacks were being blocked and countered.  The period ended as Mocco stormed of the mat. Ryan gave it his best shot, but lost 4-2 to eventual champion (ranked #1) Steve Mocco of Oklahoma State.  In the next round Allen took his aggressions out on Cody Parker of Oregon by tech falling him (22-5) and defeated 12th  ranked Clint Walbeck of Fresno State by decision (4-1) to finish third.

Freshmen sensation Josh Chelf was fourth at 174-pounds for UW-L with a 5-2 record. He lost 5-3 to 3rd ranked Shane Webster of Oregon University in the opening round before defeating Jesse Cheats of Central Missouri State by fall at 1:59 and defeated 5th ranked Josh Fitzgerald of Southern Oregon University by major decision (12-4). Chelf won by default over Imad Kharbush of Stanford University before winning by fall over Rick Story of Southern Oregon at 6:58. He won by default over Shane Webster before losing 3-2 in the third-place match to Chris Grifford of Fresno State.

Other results for the Eagles included: Jordan Kolinski (125) going 3-2 with two wins by fall while Mike Rohowetz (133), Scott Dorn (165), and Jim Swanson (197) all went 2-2. Adam Kuchnia (141), Jake Larsen (149), Ross Needham (157) and Josh Zabel (174) all finished 1-2.

Kudos for Jason Lulloff who would have wrestled 184 for us, but is out due to an injury.   He has had his surgery while we were in Reno.   The surgery went very well and he is anxious to begin rehabbing.   He is in great spirits and is focused and determined to come back for two more years of ‘in your face’ wrestling.   Out in Reno, Jason has great respect .  When it came to the 184 seedings they wanted Lulloff seeded 3rd.   We were very proud and honored to hear this.

Evanston, IL.

Ryan Allen Places 5th at Midlands Championship.

2-man UW-LaCrosse  wrestling squad finished in a 23rd place at the 60-team tournament.

After a first round bye, Ryan defeated Daren Murphy of San Francisco State (ranked 8th in D2) by fall in 1:05.  Allen then fell to 13th ranked Bode Ogunwole of Harvard 7-3 in the quarterfinals.  Allen now had to win several matches on the consolation side to stay alive at the tournament.   He started out defeating Josh Walker of Penn State 11-4.   He then matched up with Bubba Gritter of Central Michigan and won by a major decision 12-4.  He then came across 14th ranked Mike Behnke from Illinois, and breezed past him by a score of 15-3.  With three consecutive backside victory’s, Allen has earned himself a chance at a medal from this prestigious tournament.   Iowa’s freshman phenom, 5th ranked Matt Fields, is the big human obstacle that stands in his way.  Staying in good position was the goal going into the match, feeling we could control Fields from the top position.  The plan worked as Allen defeats him 1-0, and is now guaranteed a top 6 finish.  Allen was fired up to face 8th ranked Bill Stoufer of Central Michigan, knowing a win would put him the third place match.  At the end of the first period Allen hit a power double and Stoufer’s shoulder smashed into Ryan.   Stoufer was seemingly hurt badly and we were not sure he would continue.   The first period ended scoreless, and Stoufer continued with the match.   Allen started the second period by hitting a vicious switch to go ahead 2-0.   As coaches we thought he could not lose this match anymore.  We were confident that Ryan’s finesse on top would contain, if not put away the Central Michigan standout.  At this point Ryan has thrown in a leg ride and is working a power half on the same shoulder that bothered Stoufer earlier.  But then out of nowhere, the immense strength of Stoufer countered his weight to throw off Allen into the guard position.   Stoufer’s total body weight was directly over Allen, and he proceeded to gain the fall.  Ryan was in disbelief as this was the first time he had been pinned since 10th grade.   Now Ryan would have the opportunity to avenge his over time loss from earlier in the year to Nebraska Omaha’s #1 ranked(D2) Les Sigman in the 5th place match.   Ryan was fired up, but Sigmand defaulted due to injury.  Over all it was a great tournament and this will set him up for future Midlands.

Other individual that represented LaCrosse are as follows

133 Rob Jankowski 2-2 (Unattached)

157 Tade Kemnitz (Alumni) 3- 2

165 Nick Ammermann 2-2 (UN/LaCrosse)

197 Jim Swanson 1-2(UWL)

A note from Billy Huebner

These are great events for the program.  By going to nationally known tournaments, it helps our guys get better physically and mentally.  It also shows the entire wrestling community that we can compete with the best this country has to offer in the college ranks.  All ten of our entrants at the RTOC won at least one match, and all three wrestlers that participated in the Midlands won at least one match as well.  Next years trip to Reno, the team will be looking to move up from our 11th place finish and try to climb into the top four/five.  We have higher expectations and the guys know they can accomplish this.  We believe we could have up to 6 wrestlers get invites to the Midlands Championships in 2005.  It was also nice to see future La Crosse wrestlers come watch us at these venues and we thank them for this.

The program hopes everybody had a safe and happy holiday season.

A Note from Billy Huebner

It was a great week for La Crosse wrestling as we competed in the Mike McCready Open held in Fayette Iowa on Dec 11th. We got up bright and early and drove down to Iowa. It was well worth it. By the end of the day the program placed 14 individuals. It was quite an exciting day for the coaching staff. The last time we competed at Upper Iowa was in 1996 and now we are back. The tournament director was very grateful toward La Crosse for bringing such a crew down there. One could tell that La Crosse really made the tournament exciting. Talking to the staff from Upper Iowa they are real excited for next year’s tournament. More teams will be committing to this Open tournament for next year already. I can see this event get bigger and more competitive next year and La Crosse will be a part of it. What is nice about this venue is it is in our back door and it is a great chance to go up against both Division I and II opponents.
It is great seeing our young guys getting big wins at open tournaments. By wrestling in “open tournaments” it gives individuals a chance to excel, and overall it makes our program continue to build its national recognition. One of the coaching staffs’ goals is to get all of our athletes at least 25 matches in each season. For many programs this is hard to accomplish, and sometimes not considered important. We feel that it is vital for the success of our program to take care of every single wrestler’s individual needs. The La Crosse wrestling program is continuously moving forward, and freshmen student athletes that come here are reminded that they represent the future of this great program. Our staff firmly believes that this philosophy is a must to have in our program.
On the way back we stopped in Decorah, Iowa, ate at Mabe’s pizza, and talked wrestling. There was a lot of brainstorming going on around the table as we discussed the dual meet that was coming up against Stevens Point.

The following wrestlers placed:

La Crosse Wrestlers Get Invited to Midlands

Coach Skaar was able to get four of our wrestlers invited to the 42nd Midlands Championships this year.  He broke the news to the rest of the coaching staff on Monday.   We are all very excited to have the chance to bring these guys down to the best collegiate wrestling tournament in the country.  We also found out that our team is now #6 on the waiting list to get into the Midlands.  Hopefully within a year or two, the entire team will be wrestling at this great event.  Having this on our schedule makes the program even more nationally recognized.  Coach Skaar and the rest of the coaching staff believe we have a great chance to have more than four wrestlers be invited to next year's Midlands.

The four wrestlers who will compete are as follows:

Ryan Allen Ranked #1 National Champion and runner up / 2x All-American at HWT (Livingston, WI)

Jim Swanson Ranked #7 in the country at 197lbs. (Roscoe, IL)

Nick Ammerman 2x NJCAA NQ / All-American / South West Oregon (La Crosse Club Team)

Rob Jankowski  National Champion / 4x All-American (Assistant Coach)

The tournament runs Wednesday and Thursday, December 29-30, and is shaping up to be one of the most diverse in its storied history.  Wrestlers from 28 different states will be competing.  Most prominently represented is Ohio, which brings 15 wrestlers to the mats, while Pennsylvania ranks second with 11 and Illinois third with nine.  Iowa ranks fourth with seven set to compete.  The draw extends to the west coast as well, with six wrestlers hailing from both California and Washington.  The wide variety of states represented is a testament to the still-growing national appeal of the legendary Midlands Championships.  We will not only be representing our team, but Wisconsin and Division III as well.  Hopefully we'll have a great crowd to cheer them on.

A Note From Billy Huebner

Hello everyone. The UW-La Crosse wrestling team is currently 5-0 in duals overall and ranked #7 in the country. We just went 4-0 at the 3rd Annual 2x4 Tournament, winning the tournament all three years. Since the inception of this tournament, the UW-La Crosse wrestling team has gone undefeated. This year, we ended up with a 33-7 overall match record in the duals and we went 11-4 on the exhibition mat, making it 44 wins and 11 losses on the day. That is a pretty good day of wrestling and winning and a lot of matches.

The following UWL wrestlers went undefeated that day:

HWT Ryan Allen / Livingston, WI (JR)

197 Jim Swanson /Roscoe, IL (SO)

184 Josh Chelf /Irma, WI (FR)

174 Josh Zabel /Rochester, MN (FR)

125 Jordan Kolinski/ Rockford, IL (FR)

The 2x4 is a great tournament to have here in La Crosse, and it's great for our fans and wrestlers to come watch a venue like this. In the future, the program is talking about making this into a 16-team dual tournament. Our goal is to make this the premiere dual tournament on that date for teams to compete at in the Midwest.

We have a busy two weeks of wrestling ahead of us. We will be wrestling UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, December 8. On Saturday, December 11, we will be competing in the Upper Iowa/Mike McCready Open. We are hoping to match up with some Division I and II wrestlers to get some more big wins under our belt. We will then be wrestling Stevens Point on Sunday, December 12, at the Rochester Civic Center in Minnesota at noon. What is neat about this is we will be wrestling on an elevated stage in front of a huge crowd followed by the Minnesota and Northern Iowa Dual. It should be an intense crowd pleaser.

I have attached the results of the 2x4 tournament for you to look over. As you can see, we dominated our opponents most of the day

==================================

A note from Billy Huebner  12/3/04

We opened our dual meet season against Lawrence University Thursday night at Mauston HS. The final score was 43-3. Coach Skaar told the team before they went out to compete that our goal was to collect bonus points. That was the mentality for our guys out on the mat. The guys did accomplish their mission to score bonus points, as you will see in the box scores. Thus, the coaching staff was satisfied. Our next goal was to win every match, but we fell short by winning 9 out of 10 matches. Our 165 lber gave up a three point lead in the last 45 seconds to lose by two. It was exciting to see five freshmen in last nights line up, all in their very first dual meet as an Eagle.

It was nice to get Captain Ross Needham (Marshfield, WI/157) back from an injury. This was his first competition of the year. Watching him wrestle out on the mat, nobody could tell it was his first match of the season. Ross is a great leader for the program and stepped out on the mat with a fury, forcing his opponent to injury default in the first period.

All week the coaching staff had plans to bump up freshmen sensation Josh Chelf from 174 to wrestle the #2 ranked 184 wrestler Ben Dictus. Josh is ranked #8 after beating #3 ranked Mark Sturm of Wartburg College at the Harold Nichols Open. Josh won the match 5-2 over Dictus, and it was great for Josh and the team. Josh dominated Dictus in the match. The best part of the match was in the third period when Josh had Dictus down on the edge of the mat. Dictus was working the edge to get out. Chelf is very strong for a freshman and he was able to put Dictus on his back out of bounds. Chelf spent the last 25 seconds of the match trying to pull Dictus in bounds with him on his back. That was great seeing our freshman do something like this.

Auggie Brute Adidas Open November 20, 2004

A note from Billy Huebner:

The UW-La Crosse coaching staff could not wait to get out on our next adventure for the 2004-05 season. The stop was Minneapolis, Minnesota. As we got off the bus Friday night, Coach Skaar assigned rooms and had a team meeting to discuss what our mission was: “do not worry about the time or the score; just win the position battles.” And we did complete that mission.

The La Crosse wrestling program had its best showing ever at the Auggie Brute Open this Saturday, in which almost every wrestler that participated placed. This is the first time I have ever seen this happen since we have been going to this event. What makes this even more exciting is the group we brought down there -- over 90% of the participants were freshmen and sophomores. If you have never been to the Brute Open, there are a lot of participants. Wrestling started at 9AM and ended after 9PM, with no breaks. At the end of the night, the program placed 22 individuals. That is a lot of matches. What was great to see was the fact that our guys are improving out there. For example, Jerad Clark from Arlington Heights, IL went from not placing at the Harold Nichols Open to going 3-1 with his only loss coming in overtime to the Champion from Ridgewater. There was quite a lot of improvement from the last tournament to this event. Illinois high school standout Collin McKillip of Marion Catholic was coming back from a cartilage/rib injury and took first in his debut college tournament. Watching Collin in practice and in this tournament has been exciting for us because he is always aware of his surroundings and his positioning on the mat. He is a smart, talented wrestler on the mat and uses his leverage to put his opponents in trouble. Collin will be a consistently dangerous wrestler for all of his future opponents.

Coach Skaar’s philosophy in these early tournaments is “wrestling in these opens is a wrestling practice in itself.” Our plan is to open up and try new things out there, push ourselves mentally when we get tired, and not care how much time is on the clock. We are setting our wrestlers up for the end of the season. The level of competition this program faces demands that we rise to a high level. It is great for our fans to see our guys wrestling tough competition. Coming to watch us compete is always exciting, as we put on a good show. For example, in the last two weeks Ryan Allen has wrestled two of the best heavyweights in the country; Les Sigman of Nebraska-Omaha (#1 ranked heavyweight in Division II) and Cole Konrad of the University of Minnesota (#2 ranked heavyweight in Division I.

The match between Ryan and Konrad was the featured match of the tournament. Every fan was waiting to see this one go down. The first period was a back and forth battle in which Ryan was shooting his outside singles on Cole, as the Gopher was attacking with body locks and foot sweeps. The match remained scoreless as the entire gymnasium was swarming around the mat. In the second period, Konrad chose down and got a one-point escape. Ryan was setting up his attacks and was caught in a vicious front headlock. Ryan immediately hit a nasty switch, which developed into a 550-pound HWT scramble. The scramble put Konrad in trouble where Allen nearly got the reversal, but Konrad hit a fat man role in which Ryan scrambled to only get a one-point escape. The gymnasium was going nuts. The rest of the period was a battle between two of the top HWTs in the country going at it. This was for bragging rights. After the whistle blew, we entered the third period 2-2 with Konrad choosing down. We decided to let the big man go and settle it on the feet. The score was 3-2 after we released him, with less than two minutes left in the battle of the two monsters. The melee continued as Konrad was defending Ryan’s attacks. As the brawl ended, Ryan lost the match 3-2. We talked to Ryan after the match and he said, “I know what I’m capable of and I’m not satisfied with this loss.” He went on to say, “I am looking forward to having a chance to wrestle Steve Mocco of Oklahoma State at Reno.”

After the tournament, we went out for a late supper with Coach Skaar’s father, Neal. We discussed and philosophized with old man Skaar about the day’s events. I am looking forward to everyone getting a chance to meet him, as he is the epitome of a true wrestling fan.

The middle of Thanksgiving week, the guys will be assigned a workout to take with them as we send the team home to train at their local high schools. The guys are looking forward to eating a lot of turkey and homemade pies. I told them to bring a lot of leftovers from home with them to feed to the coaching staff.

We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Harold Nichols Open in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday, November 13th

A note from Billy Huebner:

The UW-La Crosse wrestling team opened the season at the Harold Nichols Open in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday, November 13th. This tournament was one of the toughest tournaments in the country last weekend. There wasn't one easy weight class. We went up against several top ranked Division I programs. Among our opponents were Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Nebraska, Nebraska Omaha, Wartburg, William Penn, Iowa Central Community College, and Ellsworth Community College. After the dust was settled in the arena, the Eagles placed nine individuals:

   Jordan Kolinski of Rockford East, IL placed 7th at 125 lbs.
   Ryan Pottebaum of Apple Valley, MN placed 4th at 133 lbs.
   Mike Rohowitz of Spring Green, WI placed 5th at 133 lbs.
   Nick Ammerman of South West Oregon placed 5th at 165 lbs.
   Scott Dorn of Arcadia, WI placed 7th at 165 lbs.
   Joshua Chelf of Tomahawk, WI placed 5th at 174 lbs.
   Jim Swanson of Machesney Park, IL placed 2nd at 197 lbs.
   Ryan Allen of Livingston, WI placed 2nd at HWT.
   David Olson of Farmington, MN placed 5th at HWT.

It was great to see many of our wrestlers going up against Division I opponents. What was even better to see as coaches was the way in which we competed. We were always the guys who got back to the middle first, we were winning the battles on the edge of the mat, and we were winning the battles at the end of the periods. It was very exciting. It was great to hear from many Iowa fans and coaches who were impressed by our team. We were told several times that the La Crosse wrestlers were fun to watch because of the excitement we brought to the mat and to the tournament.

Tonight at practice we will go over the mistakes we did as individuals and find ways to correct them. We will also go over some more team development for technique. We will then focus on the upcoming event, which is the Augsburg tournament held in Minneapolis, MN. We will be taking a charter bus up the night before and staying in a hotel to help us prepare for our next battle on the mat. We are excited to get out there and compete against Augsburg. Our mission right now is to find the best competition out there. Our goal is to shake things up and make a statement this year. We are very excited about what our team is capable of this year and in the years to come.
