A moment with the Coach

"A moment with UW Badger Coach Barry Davis"

2009-2010 Number 1 (September 22, 2009)

Pre-Season Q & A

Wisconsin Wrestling Online:  Barry I see that you and your staff are putting on some pre-season wrestling clinics at three different sites – Wausau, Waukesha West, and Prairie du Chien. Can you tell me a little about the clinics?

Coach Davis: I just think it’s a great opportunity for us to reach out to kids around the State that are in those areas to get some pre-season hard wrestling and technique in before their season starts. Information regarding the exact times, locations and cost is located at http://www.wiwrestling.com/college/badgerclub/badgerindex.htm

Wisconsin Wrestling Online: Can you give me an idea of some of the things that you will be covering during these sessions?

Coach Davis: We have it set up where each individual that attends the clinic will be exposed to six different types of teaching styles. Example: Kyle Ruschell will emphasize late counters, cutting the corner, step overs. Andrew Howe will show single leg shots and finishes. I plan on concentrating on combination wrestling ~ going from one move to the next. In addition we will feature Trevor Brandvold, Coach Pritzlaff, and Coach Frayer, each with their own area of expertise.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online: If I was a parent or a coach I would be impressed with the level of expertise that each of your clinicians will be bringing to the table.

Coach Davis: That’s right…….with the combined experience from all of these individuals that will be teaching, you will have Olympic, World, NCAA, and All-American experience.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online: Not only is this a great opportunity to be exposed to some high level wrestling experience but it’s also a great way for the UW to reach out to area schools. Do you plan on holding clinics at any other locations this year?

Coach Davis: We don’t have any locations planned at this time. We begin our dual meet season November 13th at the Field House in Madison vs. Old Dominion so we won’t have the time to devote to a clinic until after NCAA’s in March. I want to get the word out that we are holding a FREE Coaches Clinic at the Field House on Thursday, October 29th from 4:30 – 6:00 PM followed by an Exhibition Match with our team from 7:00 – 8:30 PM. We hope a lot of Wisconsin fans will be able to join us.
