A Moment With Coach Davis!

Big Ten dual meet during State Tourney

Friday, February 22 (4:30pm)  the Badgers will wrestle Big Ten foe Northwestern University in the UW Field House.  The dual is being held between sessions of the WIAA State Tourney making it possible for Badger fans to enjoy the Badger dual while visiting Madison for the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament.

We had an opportunity to take A Moment With The Coach looking forward to the Northwestern Dual meet Friday.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online (Tom):  Looks like this past weekend was a great weekend for Wisconsin Wrestling!

Coach Davis:  Yeah – it was.  I think the two dual meet wins give us good momentum going into Friday’s dual with Northwestern.  We had some big wins, but there were a couple of matches that we left out there that I thought we could have won.  I think people need to understand that these guys have worked hard to get all the little things right and when you do the little things right, you get good results.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online :  Give me your thoughts about the upcoming weekend versus Northwestern and tell me why you decided to hold the dual meet at 4:30 PM versus your regular start time of 7:00 PM?

Coach Davis:  It’s State Tourney weekend and we thought it would be a good opportunity for all the Wisconsin fans traveling to Madison to watch the State Tourney a chance to catch a Wisconsin Badger dual meet.  We arranged our start time to coincide with the break between the Friday sessions at the State Tourney.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online:  That’s right – it gives the folks from the northern area of Wisconsin that don’t normally have an opportunity to travel to Madison a chance to watch you compete.

Coach Davis:  Well, they can watch on our live webcasts, but it’s not quite the same as seeing the Badgers in action in person.  I hope we have a lot of folks take advantage of the opportunity to see us wrestle live.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online: Tell us about the lineups for Friday.

Coach Davis:  In regards to my thoughts for the weekend lineup, there are going to be some pretty tough match-ups.  We are going to have to have some guys really come thru and step up in order to win this dual meet. The feature match-ups will be at 197 and Heavyweight.  At 197, Tamillow (#2) from Northwestern vs. Dallas Herbst (#4), and heavyweight, Dustin Fox (#1) from Northwestern vs. Kyle Massey (#4).  It should be a great dual meet and I hope we get a big crowd to help cheer us on.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online:  From what I understand the weather looks like it will cooperate, so the fans should be able to take the short walk from the Kohl Center to the Field House.

Coach Davis:  I hope the weather does cooperate.  I am looking for an all time record fan attendance at this dual meet.  Our guys have had a good year and have worked hard.  Our fans need to show the rest of the people around the country how important wrestling is to the State of Wisconsin.  We hope we see 5000+ fans in the Field House Friday! (Friday, February 22nd – 4:30 PM)

Wisconsin Wrestling Online:  Aren’t there buses that travel back and forth from the Kohl Center to the Field House?  I know they do it for Basketball, so I am assuming they will be running for this event?

Coach Davis:  The Stadium Bar on Monroe St. and Lucky’s on Regent St. sponsor these buses and I know they plan on doing the same for the State Tourney.  So fans can hop on these buses, grab something to eat and then take a very short walk over to the Field House.  Fans will be able to catch the bus back to finish up that night’s Tourney action.

Wisconsin Wrestling Online:  Thanks Coach Davis.  Best of luck Friday.
