Lakes Regional Results for Wisconsin Teams
Concordia’s
Neske, Massman Place At NCAA Regionals
Clayton Neske (Jr., Mequon, WI) took 3rd at 285 lbs. to lead the
Concordia University wrestling team to a 8th place finish at the NCAA
III Great Lakes Regional last weekend in
Elmhurst, IL. Joe Massman (Soph., Taylor, WI) placed 5th At 149 lbs.,
duplicating his finish from last season.
Neske went 5-2 on the day with four pins. He pinned Chicago’s Tom Nero
to advance to the 3rd-place match, where he pinned Lakeland’s Nate
VandenHoogen in 3:13 to receive a true-second place match against
Augsburg’s Andrew Neumann.
Neske took Neumann down to his back in the first to take a 5-0 lead.
Neumann scrambled out, and controlled the match with riding and
eventually battled back for a 8-5 win.
“Neske had a great day today, and he needed a tighter lock on his
pinning combination against Neumann, and Neske would have placed
second,” commented Head Coach Bret Corner.
“As a junior, Neske will be back. He proved he is one of the top
heavyweights in the nation today.”
Massman went 3-2 on the day, defeating Wheaton’s Joe McHale In the
5th-place match by a 7-1 decision. Massman finished the season 22-14, to
lead the team in wins. Dan Crowley (Soph., Gladwin, MI) went 2-2, and
finished the season 19-14 with 11 pins.

Nine Falcon Wrestlers Place
The Concordia University Wisconsin wrestlers took 3rd at the 43rd Annual
North Central Invitational Saturday in Naperville, IL. Nine Falcon
wrestlers placed in the top six in their weights, led by 125 lber. Dan
Crowley who took 2nd. Joe Massman (149) went 4-1
on the day to take 3rd, and push his team leading record on the year to
17-8.

Wrestlers 1-2 At Florida Citrus
The Concordia University Wisconsin wrestling team defeated Mt. St.
Joseph (OH) 39-11 at the Florida Citrus Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale
December 29-30. The team also dropped duals to #28 Ursinus College
(33-7) and Rhode Island College (31-9).
Joe Massman (149) sparked the Falcons with a pin against Mt. St. Joseph,
and Hunter Six closed the door with a pin at heavyweight. Adam Schultz
added a decision at 184 lbs. in his first competition of the year at
that weight.
Nick Estep went 2-2 at 197 lbs. at the Florida Citrus Invite on Dec. 29,
but no Falcons placed in the tourney. Massman defaulted early, but came
back and wrestled well in the duals the next day.

Concordia's Massman 4th at Concordia Open
Joe Massman (So., Taylor, WI) led the Falcon wrestlers by going 5-2 and
placing 4th at 149 lbs. at the 14th annual Concordia Open. Dan Crowley
(So., Gladwin, MI) went 3-2 at 125 lbs., recording three pins. Nick
Estep (Fr., Racine, WI) was 2-2 at 197 lbs. and
Matthew Wagner (Fr., Mayville) also went 2-2 at 157. The Falcons next
travel to Manchester College (Ind.) on December 1-2 for the Indiana
Little State Tournament. Wrestling starts Friday at 2:00pm.

The CUW Wrestling team dropped a tight decision to Triton College
(IL) Friday night at the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse in the Falcon home
opener. Concordia (1-4) got a pin from Josh Plate (Fr., Brillion, WI) at
133 lbs. for his first collegiate win. Other Falcons getting
victories included Aaron Bergen (Fr., St. Charles, MO)at 149, Matthew
Wagner (Fr., Mayville, WI) at 157, and freshman Nick Estep (Racine, WI)
at 197.
