Concordia results at Wheaton Duals

Bergen, Neske Lead Falcon Wrestlers Over Augustana (IL) at Wheaton Duals The CUW Wrestling team (4-4 overall, 0-2 NWA) went
1-1 at the Wheaton Duals, defeating Augustana, 22-18, then dropping a 33-18 decision to host Wheaton in the nightcap.

Trailing 18-16 against Augustana going into the heavyweight match, Concordia's Clayton Neske recorded a pin in :10 seconds to give CUW the win. The Falcons won six of nine matches wrestled, with Steve McCullough (174) and Aaron Bergen (165) picking up big wins. McCullough scored a takedown in double overtime for a 4-2 victory over Augustana's Gabe Gardner. Bergen scored a takedown in the third period and accumulated riding time to win 8-4 over the Viking's Dan Krcmar.

Against Wheaton, Josh Plate (149) and Clayton Neske (285) recorded pins for the Falcons. Adam Schultz picked up a forfeit win at 197 lbs., and improved his season record to 14-3. All three went 2-0 on the day, with Neske scoring two pins.
The Falcons will again travel to Wheaton next week for the 30-team Pete Willson Invitational Feb. 1-2. Wrestling begins on Friday, February 1 at 1:30pm.

Concordia's Schultz Wins North Central Wrestling Invite;
Massman 2nd As Falcons Take 8th

Adam Schultz (Jr., Harvard, IL) won the 197 lb. title at the 44th North Central Invitational today in Naperville, IL. Schultz went 4-0 on the weekend, including a 2-0 win in the semis over Vinny Sapienza of North Central, and a title match victory of Lawrence’s Jack Peters, 10-0. Schultz improved to 9-2 on the season.

Joe Massman (Jr., Taylor, WI) took 2nd at 149 lbs., going 2-1 on the weekend. In the semis, Massman defeated UW-Platteville’s Ryan Higgins, 4-0, to advance to the finals. Elmhurst’s Jeff Kastel won a 9-5 decision over Massman in the championship match. Kastel is currently ranked #6 in the NCAA III. Massman improved to 16-4 on the year. Dan Crowley (Jr., Gladwin, MI) and Josh Plate (So., Brillion, WI) each took 4th at 125 & 133 respectively. Crowley went to 14-10 on the season. Zac Wiliamson (Fr., Miamisburg, OH) finished 1-2.

The Falcons (3-2 overall, 1-1 NWA) next travel to MSOE for a conference dual on Thursday, January 17. Wrestling starts at 7:00pm.


Concordia Wrestlers 5th At Florida Citrus Invite

Team Goes 2-1 At Citrus Duals On Day Two

At the Florida Citrus Invite in Ft. Lauderdale on Dec. 29, the CUW Wrestling team placed 5th out of eight teams, placing five wrestlers in the tourney. Joe Massman took 2nd at 149 to lead the team. Massman went 3-1, including a 8-4 semi-final win over Ursinus College (Pa.) Chris Springer. Massman then dropped a controversial 4-3 match to US Merchant Marine Academy (NY) Dan Twito in the finals. Massman improved his team-leading season record to 14-3.

Also placing in the Invite were: Adam Schultz (3rd at 197), Dan Crowley (4th at 125), Clayton Neske (5th at 285), and Zac Williamson (6th at 133).

The Falcons (3-2 overall, 1-1 Northern Wrestling Assoc.) put together their best showing in Florida in 3 years. "The team competed well against some top competition,"commented Head Coach Bret Corner. "I was particularly pleased with Massman, Schultz, Williamson, & Josh Nord (157). Williamson and Nord, both freshman, picked up some big wins for us in the duals."

The CUW wrestlers next travel to the North Central Invite in Naperville, IL on January 11-12.

The 15th Concordia Wrestling Open takes place This Saturday, November 17 at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon. First Round begins at 9:00am With the semi-finals slated for 1:30pm and the Finals to begin at 5:30pm.

Teams competing include: Concordia (Wis.), Univ. of Chicago, North Central (IL), UW-Parkside, Loras College (IA), University of Dubuque, Triton College IL, UW-Platteville, Elmhurst College IL, Augustana College IL, Case Western Reserve OH, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater, Wabash College IN, Muskegon (MI), MSOE, Lakeland, Maranatha Bapist, UW-Milwaukee, Northland Baptist.


Concordia’s Massman Wins Knox Invite
Saturday, November 10, 2007 – Galesburg, IL

Joe Massman (Jr., Taylor, WI) went 3-0 on the day to Win the 149 lbs. weight class at the Knox Invitational Today. Massman defeated Waldorf’s Jeremy Padilla, 5-1, In the finals. Taking second for the Falcons were Jeff Elswick (174) and Josh Plate (133). CUW placed Nine wrestlers in the top six in their weight classes.
