The No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the No. 6 Cornhuskers to begin a weekend of Big Ten Conference action Friday night inside the Devaney Center. Though the Badgers picked up three wins, it wasn’t nearly enough for an upset, as they fell 28-11.

Andrew Crone (R-JR) a Wisconsin native, was the first to pick up a win for the Badgers at the 149 lb spot. Crone scored a decision over Collin Purinton (R-FR) 10-7. Purinton held an early 4-1 lead, then just ticks into the second period Crone was able to get the escape followed by a takedown, and two nearfalls. Crone held Purinton off in the third tacking on another takedown and two escapes.

No. 3 Isaac Jordan (R-SR) picked up the second win of the night two matches later at 165 lb. Jordan tallied a takedown, an escape and riding time to grasp the 4-1 decision over Dustin Williams (SO).

No. 2 Connor Medbery (R-SR) capped the night for the badgers at heavyweight, picking up their only bonus point win with a 16-0 tech fall (3:55) over David Jensen (R-FR). Medbery picked up a takedown and six total nearfall points just in the first period. He did not relent in the second, adding on two four-point nearfalls, ending the match and subsequently the dual.

No. 13 Ricky Robertson (R-JR) came within seconds of an upset over No. 7 Aaron Studebaker (SR) at 197 lb. Robertson fought back from a 2-1 deficit, getting a reversal in the second period. Studebaker was able to get the escape, tying the match at 3. A third period escape gave Studebaker the lead. Unfortunately, Ricky wasn’t able to get the takedown, losing a close 4-3 decision.

No. 20 Johnny Jimenez (JR) was unable to come up with an upset this week for the Badgers. The 125 lb Jimenez couldn’t get in the groove as No. 3 Tim Lambert (SR) started the Huskers night off with a 19-1 (6:42) tech fall taking a five point team score lead.

The Badgers would go on to drop the next two matches as Eli Stickley (R-FR) fell to No. 3 and 2x All American Eric Montoya (SR) 10-1 at 133 lb. In a ranked battle at 141 lb., No. 15 Cole Martin lost by major decision, 12-2, to No. 11 Colton McCrystal (JR). The Huskers took a 13-0 lead heading into the 149 lb. bout.

Cuba City, Wisconsin native Jarod Donar (R-SR) was in the lineup at 157 lb. Facing No. 3 Tyler Berger (SO), Martin surrendered another bonus point win for the Huskers, 14-4, extending the Husker lead to 17-3.

Ryan Christensen (R-SO) took the mat for the Badgers at 174 lb droping a tough 8-1 decision to Micah Barnes (SR). Elkhorn, Wisconsin native Jake Stilling (R-JR) lost a 16-0 tech fall (1:38) to a tough 2x All American TJ Dudley (SR).

Nebraska took a 25-6 lead with two matches to go. Studebaker would add three more for the Huskers, and Connor Medbery tacked on five for Wisconsin to make the final score 28-11 in the Huskers favor.

The Badgers finish up their weekend road trip with a border battle at No. 14 Minnesota inside the Sports Pavilion, Sunday at noon. The Badgers are now 1-2 in Big Ten action, and 3-2 overall.
