Saturday March 14th, 2009
*Information Below for 2009 Will Be Updated in October* 2008 Kids Folkstyle Regional Sites
2008 Regional Info Wrestlers must qualify at one of the eight regional tournaments held on Saturday March 8, 2008 to go to the Kids Folkstyle State Tournament. The top 2 place finishers from each age and weight group from each regional qualify. We again are going to call 3rd place finishers to fill in empty spots. A system is set up so we rotate through the regionals to see which 3rd place finishers gets asked. Please do not call us, we will call you if a spot is available and your name comes up through the system that is set up. If a 1st or 2nd place finisher can not make the State Tournament then the 3rd place finisher from that regional is the alternate and will be called. We will again be having registration and weigh-ins on Friday night from 6-7:30pm and also Saturday morning from 7-8am at each of the sites with wrestling starting at 10am. This was done last year in an effort to help regionals have less stress in setting up the tournament and wrestlers could weigh-in Friday night and show up the next morning at 10am ready to wrestle not sitting around for a couple of hours waiting. USA Wrestling Cards are required and will be available at the door
at each site but is easier to plan ahead and send in for one to Sandy Russell Proof of Birth Year is required. Must show Birth Certificate or some form of government ID or be listed on the WWF Birthyear List. Wrestlers that register on site or pre-registered wrestlers that pick up weigh-in cards on Friday night must weigh-in Friday night. An accurate check scale will be available at all regional sites for wrestlers to check their weight if they want to before they register Friday night. There is no re-weighing in on Saturday Morning if they weighed in Friday Night. Whatever Regional site a wrestler registers and weigh-ins at is the site they must wrestle at, there will be no forwarding of registration and weigh-in information between sites. Maps to all the Regional sites are on this website, click Maps to Sites. Each of the 8 districts in the state pick a regional site each year. But a wrestler can wrestle in any regional, they do not have to stay in their region. WIAA Mat Rules will apply in the Folkstyle State Tournament and Regionals, except the time periods are one minute long and 30 minutes rest between matches. The weight classes shown below are the maximum they can weigh in that class. Wrestlers must make the weight that they qualified at, at the Regionals 2 weeks later at the State Tournament. There is no giving of weight at either Regionals or the State Tournament. If a wrestler can not hold the weight that they weigh-in at Regionals please have them go up a weight class at the Regional because they must make that weight 2 weeks later. In 2005 we had 3 kids that did not make weight and could not wrestle in the state tournament. Besides the wrestlers and parents no one felt worse than the WWF but everyone must make weight their weight that they qualifed for at the regional for the state tournament or we will have chaos, so please pay attention to the warning above.
