WWF District 5 Webpage

The following minutes were taken at the 2005 District 5 meeting:

Club delegates present:

Merrill D.C. Everest

1. In a unanimous vote Merrill was chosen as the District 5 Regional Folkstyle Tournament host site. Scott Arneson will be the contact person.

2. The Club representatives present voted to amend the 1999 criteria for choosing a regional host site. The criteria for choosing a host site should now read:

A.) The Regional Tournament host site should hold an club charter in affiliation with the WWF and USA Wrestling for at least two years prior to the event.

B.) The regional host must demonstrate a club organization that is capable of running this event, including evidence of a sufficient number of exprienced club tournament workers.

C.) The regional host must show proof of a facility reservation for the designated WWF weekend of the regional tournament. The facility must be able to accomodate the draw of competitors as well as the fans attending this event. Central location within the Region is also a secondary consideration.

D.) The Regional Tournament Host should have held a USA sanctioned event (i.e. tournament or training site) in the year prior to the earning a bid to the Regional Tournament.

E.) The Regional Tournament Host site will attend the WWF February organizational meeting in the months prior to hosting the Regional Tournament.

F.) The Regional Tournament will be chosen one and a half years in advance to allow the site adequate time to prepare for the event.

3. Discussion of WWF news and events followed:

- mandate of $2 entry fee to the Regional Tournament.

- mat officials be at least 18 yrs of age.

- strong recommendation that host sites pay registered WIAA officials with gate money.

- regional tournaments will award medals to fourth place. There will be no fifth place match.

- regional sites will continue Friday night weigh-in.

- six weight classes will be added to folkstyle weights.

- Greco State Tournament will be held in DePere rather than Kimberly (April 28).

- Freestyle State will continue to be held in Wi. Rapids (April 22). Cadets and Juniors to start wrestling at 8:30 AM and complete 3 rounds before Kids begin at 12:00 noon. The tournament should end between 6-7:00 PM.

- Kids National Freestyle/Greco to be held in Green Bay (June 28-July1).

- Work to begin on securing a World Team Trial in Wisconsin in the future.

- A strong recommendation for young officials to not officiate age groups of their own age group or older.

- Encourage clubs to send in card money as soon as they receive it.

- Regional training sites will be strongly encouraged ot hold more Freestyle/Greco events.

- One more eek will be added to the training site schedule which will begin in April.

- New Freestyle/Greco rules to be posted on the WWF website.

4. The dates of any WWF tournaments or events should be emailed to Jeff Jones so they can be advertised on the website.

5. Vote for District 5 Representative: Jeff Micholic elected to serve 2 year term.
