WWF District 3 Meeting

Minutes – Charcoal Grill, Burlington

9-13-2006

Clubs Present:  East Troy, Elkhorn, West Allis, Waterford, Hartland, Oak Creek, Mukwonago, Delavan, Sussex, Stateline, Kenosha, Union Grove, Waukesha, Burlington, Franklin, Muskego, New Berlin West

Also Present:  Sue Dulon – Treasurer & Pairing Director, Sandy Russell – Membership Secretary, and Jeff Jones – Vice Chairman & Tournament Director

Meeting was called to order by Steve Hensel, District Rep. at 6:40 p.m.

Welcome and Introduction of clubs present – sheet was passed for clubs to sign in

District Organization:  Discussion was held regarding putting a board together to help promote district 3, (which is composed of 33 clubs in a 5 county area), Freestyle and Greco and wrestling as a whole.

Money to support district 3 will come from district 3 regionals. Money was agreed to be put into one account and not dispersed amongst the 4 hosting clubs, as had been done in the past.  This is in effect since February 2006.

Fall 2007 Election:  No elections will be held this year, next year at this time we will vote for the District 3, 4 positions.

Freestyle/Greco-Roman Tournaments:  We need to promote Freestyle and Greco wrestling more. Tried to hold 3 tournaments in district 3 but only had 2.  Burlington had one and Franklin also hosted one.  West Allis stated they would be interested in hosting one next year.  Sandy Russell stated that she needed to be notified first of anyone hosting a tournament.

Freestyle/Greco-Roman State Dual Team:  Discussion was held regarding putting teams together to compete against each other in a Freestyle, Greco dual meet. Additional discussion was held as to include

k – 12 not just k – 8 in these duals. No decision was made at this time.

Birth Year List:  Sue Dulon spoke about the need to put the club name on the birth certificates that are sent in. If you send them in before the end of January they will be on the list; if sent in after January they won’t be on the website listing until after State.  Sandy Russell suggested keeping a copy of child’s birth certificate in their gym bag.

Folkstyle Regionals: Regionals will be held at Mukwonago this coming year, on March 10th.  Kids that are able to attend regionals will hopefully be able to register on-line this coming year.  Jeff Jones spoke about how it is set-up and ready to on-line register.  On-line registration will cost an extra dollar.  Acceptable payments will be Pay-Pal via credit card.  Discussion was held about receiving an acknowledgement after registration was done on-line.  All agreed this was a good idea and should be done.

WWF Website/District Web Page:  Jeff Jones maintains the website.  Steve would like as much as possible about district 3 on the WWF website, to show we are active and growing.  Jeff Jones stated that it would be good PR to put the results of the club tournaments on the website; i.e. who placed, weight class and age.  He also stated that if someone in their club e-mailed him the information he would see that this gets on the website.

USA Wrestling Certificates:  Discussion was held about Bronze and Copper Certification for coaches.  You don’t need to be Copper certified to get your Bronze Certification.  It was discussed that possibly Kevin Black could run a class.  Additional discussion was held; certification can be done on the internet.  Coaches have to have current USA coaching card.  Steve passed a signup around for clubs who might have interested people.

Club Tournament Dates:  West Allis – January 28th, Waterford – January 6th, Kenosha – January 20th, East Troy – January 20th, Mukwonago – February 11th, (Mukwonago is an 8 man bracket), Sussex is tentatively January 14th. Discussion was held about regionals and Sussex would like to get into the 4 club pool for regionals, then Waterford stated that they would step down but still offer help. Stateline Club stated that they would like to be more involved in Wisconsin wrestling.

State Meeting:  The State Meeting this year will be held in Wisconsin Dells at the Wintergreen Resort.

Sandy Russell stressed the importance of having someone from each club attend the State meeting.

Membership:  Sandy Russell discussed that we all need to do a better job in getting the USA cards back to her.  Sandy explained the procedure using the internet registration which can generate a rooster and tells her what cards are missing.  Discussion was held regarding why we don’t have the information stickers on the tournaments cards but we do on the regular USA cards.  It is important that you mail Sandy back any unused USA cards one week after your tournament, so she can get the cards in the system

Regional/State Information:  Jeff Jones stated that there will not be many changes this year.

State/National Dates:  Kids Folkstyle Regionals - March 10th, Kids Folkstyle State at Alliant Energy Center on March 23rd and 24th.  Freestyle State at Wisconsin Rapids on April 28th.  Greco State is still undetermined at this time; watch on website, could be April 14th and 21st.  Kid’s Nationals in Cedar Falls on March 31st and April 1st.  Northern Plains is June 14th, 15th and 16th, location is unknown, possible place would be in Rochester, Minnesota and School Boy Duals on July 5th – 8th

Open Discussion:  Discussion was held about the fact that parents are not informed enough about Freestyle and Greco wrestling opportunities in District 3.  Possibly have a clinic a month before Freestyle and Greco season.  High School kids could maybe do this at regionals.  At regionals, we should post the scoring system and show brackets.  West Allis wrestling club, Chuck, asked if there will be any open wrestling mats (gyms) before the season starts, and to let Jeff Jones and Steve Hensel know if there is.

Sue Dulone spoke about possibly having beach wrestling next summer.  She also spoke about pairing and reminded everyone that they are also looking for pairers and they will train them.  Contact Jeff, Sue, Steve or Sandy if you’d like to help. Jeff stressed the importance of having Wisconsin represented at National meets.  It was decided that our district will host a mini freestyle/Greco tournament/matches while the bracketing is going on at regionals.  It will give the wrestling style great exposure to a lot of kids.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:18 p.m. by Steve Hensel

Respectfully submitted by Maureen Loehe, district secretary

District Three
Annual Meeting Notes

October 11, 2005

The annual district three meeting was held at East Troy High School which will be the site of this coming year’s regional tournament.  The following clubs were represented:

           East Troy                      Lake Geneva
   Elkhorn                          Mukwonago
   Burlington                      Waterford
Sandy Russell and Jeff Jones also attended

Clubs were encouraged to have their members access the WWF web site at www.wiwrestling.com/WWF.  The site not only includes district news but also information on sanctioned tournaments, maps to schools, results; information from Kids, Cadets and Jr. Directors, State Chairman, Officials and Pairing Directors, forms for registration, the WWF birth list and recent rule changes as well as other useful information on dates, times and locations of wrestling events.

The annual meeting is to be held on October 16th at the Holiday Inn in Tomah.  Registration begins at noon and the meeting starts at 1pm.  Each sanctioned club will have the opportunity to vote and to pick up coach and competitor cards.

Sandy told us of the new system is being put into place this year within our state to help keep track of the USA cards that are issued to each club.  You will receive more information in your club packet.  The new system allows clubs to use a user ID code and password to enter their USA cards online. Each club will then be able to print out a roster of all their wrestlers, names and USA card numbers.  The new system will identify which cards were issued to which club so it will be easier to track.   Packets will also contain a checklist that clubs can use pre-season and pre tournament to help insure that everything is acceptable for the event.

This year Folkstyle Kids Regional will be held on March 11, 2006 at East Troy High School. Weigh ins will be held on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Wrestling will start at 10AM. Track Wrestling will be used again for this tournament.  We will be looking for volunteers from each club who would be willing to work the bracketing/pairing area, to be identified in advance, so we can hold a pre-training session sometime in late January / early February.  If interested, please contact Maureen Loehe, who is the person in charge for the regional at East Troy.

Eight weight classes were added to the weight classes as a result of identifying a need based on last years statistics. Information on these changes can be found on the web site.  Also it was mentioned by Jeff Jones that there are rule changes for Freestyle / Greco which will be on the web site once they are finalized.

Folkstyle state will be on March 24/25 at the Alliant Center in Madison.  Freestyle State will be held in Wis. Rapids on Apr 22nd. This coming year Cadets/Juniors will start to wrestle at 8:30AM and Midget, Novice and Schoolboys will begin at 11AM.  All weigh-ins will take place the evening before. State Greco will be held in DePere, WI on April 29th.

This year Wisconsin will host the Kids & Cadets Northern Plains regional tournament. It will be held at the Alliant Center in Madison on June 15-17th.  We will also hold the Kids Freestyle and Greco National Tournament at the Brown County Coliseum in Green Bay on June 28th-July 1st.

Dates for the club tournaments in our area are as follows:

            Waterford – Jan 7th  (pre-registration is recommended); Hartford – Jan 8th

East Troy and Kenosha Tremper – Jan 21st

            Mukwonago – Feb 12

            Lake Geneva – Mar 4

Burlington will be hosting a Freestyle/Greco tournament - date TBD

Elections were held and Steve Hensel was chosen as the new District 3 representative.  I want to thank those who were in attendance.  With the help and commitment from all the clubs within our district, we will be able to have another successful year of competition for all the wrestlers in Southeastern Wisconsin.

District 3 – Wisconsin Wrestling Federation
Annual Meeting Notes
September 20, 2004

The annual district 3 meeting began with introductions.  We had 8 clubs from the district represented and 15 individuals in attendance.

First we talked about accessing a lot of the information that clubs might need on the Web site:    http://www.wiwrestling.com/WWF.  The site includes not only district 3 news but also available sanctioned tournaments, directions, results; information from the Kids, Cadets, Jr. Directors, State Chairman, Officials and Pairing Director; forms for registration; WWF birth certificates on file list and links to numerous other bits of useful information.

Members were informed of the annual meeting to be held on October 10th at the Holiday Inn in Tomah (Hwy 21 & I-94 Exit 143). Registration begins from 11 – Noon and the meeting starts at 12:30.  This is your opportunity to vote, to sanction your club and your tournament and to pick up competitor & coaches cards.

Speaking of USA cards, Sandy Russell addressed some of her concerns in dealing with the problems she faces.  All cards MUST be accounted for so if you don’t sell some or you make mistakes on some .. return them to her with all the other forms. Mark VOID on the cards with mistakes.  This year there will be a $5 replacement fee charged for lost cards.  Also when selling cards at your tournaments, be sure the forms are completed entirely with Name and Address and Zip code. Staple the liability waiver to the form and mail these along with the checks in a secure envelope to Sandy. She suggests sending it as registered so there is tracking available.  Please help us to improve the situation relative to USA cards

Kids Folkstyle State Regionals will be held March 12th at Waterford Union High School.

This year the youngest age group who can’t qualify to compete at state will be eliminated from the regional competition.  Another change for this year is that weigh-ins will be held on Friday evening. Keep in mind if a wrestler weighs in on Friday at Waterford, they MUST wrestle at Waterford on Saturday.  Weigh-ins will be held Friday from 6-7:30 PM and also on Saturday from 7 – 8AM. Wrestlers must be ready to wrestle at 10 AM Saturday.  All weights are final – in other words, you can’t weigh in on Friday and then again on Saturday.  You must be able to wrestle in the same weight class at State – absolutely NO weight allowances will be given for state … not even a 1/10 of a pound.

The district needs dedicated workers in the pairing area. Each club in the district is requested to submit the names of 2-3 people from their clubs that would be willing to work ALL DAY at the regional tournament in pairing. They would be released to watch their child wrestle, but otherwise would work all day, helping to write out bout sheets, wall charts and other pairing related duties.  In the past, many people volunteered to help set up brackets in the AM but then left the area. We need help ALL DAY… so don’t commit unless you’re willing to help until the end of the tournament.  It’s an easy but very important job. Please have interested people send there name, club name, phone number and email address to Barb Groth at WWFBGroth@aol.com. Barb will be arranging a meeting with the designated pairing members prior to regionals.

The Folkstyle State Tournament will be held March 25th & 26th at Alliant Center in Madison.  Please note this is Easter weekend. We will do our best to complete all wrestling by 6PM on Saturday

Greco State will be held April 16th at Kimberly High School, Kimberly Wisconsin.

Unfortunately this date will conflict with FILA Nationals in Evanston on 4/16, but we were unable to schedule it the week prior.

Freestyle State will be held April 23rd at Wisconsin Rapids High School.

This year the Kids Greco/Freestyle Nationals will be held from June 29 to July 2nd at the

Brown County Coliseum in Green Bay, WI. We had about 50 wrestlers from Wisconsin place in each style last year at nationals and we’re hoping that many more will be able to compete in this event this coming season.

We talked about the new state coach that should be hired in October. Another change that the board has made is to select 4 State Clinicians – North/South Freestyle & North/South Greco. Clinicians with assistance from specified coaches will run training sites. This coming year regional sites will start March 14th and run 8 weeks until the week of May 7th. There will only be 8 – 10 sites.  Training sites will also be extended to run Mid-May to the 2nd/3rd week in July for Freestyle/Greco.

The clubs represented at our meeting have chosen the following dates for their club tournaments:    Waterford – Jan 8, West Allis – Jan 15, East Troy - Jan 22, Mukwonago -Feb 13th.  Others had not finalized their dates as yet. Please watch the WWF web site for further developments.

I want to thank those who were in attendance. With the help and commitment from all the clubs within our district, we will be able to have a successful year of competition for all the wrestlers in Southeastern Wisconsin.
