Tournament Highlights

Highlights:

West Bend West (210.5) upset Dual Meet Champion Hartford (180.0) (See attached Team Scores) even after Hartford claimed WLT titles at 103#, 112#, 119#, and 125#. West Bend West (22-2-1) lost earlier in the year to Hartford (19-0) by a score of 31-24. This marks only the third time since 1982 that a team other than Hartford or Oconomowoc has won the conference title (Watertown tied with Oconomowoc in 1993 and Waupun won in 1984).
At 112, Hartford sophomore Brad Becker (29-1) defended his 1999 Conference title by defeating the 1999 - 103 pound champion Paul Nickolaus (26-7) from Oconomowoc (junior) by a score of 8-7.
At 119, junior Jake Multhauf (29-2) from Hartford won his second consecutive title (earned at 125# last year) defeating West Bend West sophomore Mike Schatz (22-7).
At West Bend West junior Paul Mannes (30-1) captured his third consecutive WLT Conference championship by pinning Beaver Dam junior Chris Komorowski (20-10) in 4:51 after building up a 15-2 lead. His previous titles were at 103 (1998) and 119 (1999).
Last year's runner up at 130, Adam Schlieve (21-2) - a senior from Waupun, scored a fall on defending 135# champion Jon Greschner (23-3) - a senior from Wisconsin Lutheran in 2:27 to win the title at 135#.
Beaver Dam senior, Greg Furdek (28-1) won his third straight title (135# in 1998, 145# in 1999 and 2000) at 145 and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament for his efforts. He scored a 20-9 major decision on West Bend West sophomore Nathan Susnik to get the job done.
Dan Chambers (a senior from Beaver Dam with a 26-3 record) repeated as the 152# WLT Champion by defeating Adam Schuldt (a 22-9 senior from West Bend East) by scoring a fall in only 0:51.
State runner-up Jake Gibson (a 23-1 senior from Watertown - currently ranked #1 in the Crossface magazine) scored falls in 0:45, 0:39, and 1:05 to secure his third consecutive 275# WLT Conference Title.
