Tuesdays with Barry 2-28-2017

Hello Badger fans, happy Big Tens week!  The Badger wrestling team will be heading to Bloomington, Indiana tomorrow to kick off the postseason  We will compete this Saturday and Sunday.  Big Ten titles and qualifying spots for the NCAA tournament are up for grabs.  Wisconsin is the only team in the country that had all 10 wrestlers earn a qualifying spot for their conference.  That is a good achievement and speaks to our teams depth, but we will still have to have a great tournament this weekend to get all 10 starters through to nationals.  As any Big Ten tournament there will be some great individual match ups we cant wait!

To get you fired up for the Big Ten tournament our media team of Bianca Miceli and Kelli Grashel have put together this video

We are currently ranked 2nd in the country in the Best of Brands standings done by the NWCA.  This is an area we have greatly improved on over the past couple of years.  If you dont currently follow the Badgers on twitter you can here at @BadgerWrestling  or you can find the Badgers on Facebook at Facebook Wisconsin Wrestling

With all the excitement of the postseason upon us we want to share our condolences with two families that lost loved ones over the past weekend…

Matt Gray passed away late Saturday night.  Matt has been our PA announcer for quite some time and has done the WIAA state tournament announcing for more than twenty years.  Matt rarely missed a Badger dual and always did a great job at the State Tournament.  He was a UW grad and taught special education at Jefferson Middle School here in town.

We also want to send our deepest sympathies to Scott Markos family.  Scott was the head wrestling coach at Amery high school.  This heart breaking loss has shocked the wrestling community here in Wisconsin.  He is survived by his five children and wife Brooke.

These losses quickly put even the biggest of wrestling tournaments into perspective.  Who we are as people and the positive impact we make on others far outshine the wins and losses that occur in the sport of wrestling.  Like we communicate to our wrestlers, be thankful, in all circumstances we are very thankful for you and the Wisconsin Wrestling community!

Have a great rest of your week, On Wisconsin!
